CONCEPT

The refurbishment project transforms the existing building in a holiday home for a family that love mountains. The recovery of this building called tabià (once used as stable and barn) becomes an opportunity for reinventing, in a contemporary way, a building strongly linked to local agricultural tradition. Inserted in a sloping plot, in second lane with respect to the roadside and the buildings facing it, the tabià develops into 3 levels: one partially underground with a mixed structure in stone and concrete; an intermediate one with a structure in wooden pillars and beams, where there is also the main entrance; and an attic projecting cantilevered on all four sides. In order to respect the character of the property, a clean and contemporary approach was taken to the renovation: in line with the desire to maintain the fragile balance and the coherence between the vernacular tradition and the contemporary character, details have been reworked which tend to  give a more abstract and neutral character of the whole.

STRATEGY 

The building has been dismantled, reconfigured and expanded it on the east side, offering an architectonic and functional reinterpretation of the building. The typical distribution scheme of local building has been taken over: the interior space has been divided into 3 parts where the staircase occupies the central portion. In the lower floors, which are in close contact with the existing buildings around, rooms and service areas have been placed, while the living area has been placed in the attic, where it is possible to enjoy the beautiful landscape on the Dolomites. The cozy and spacious kitchen / living room is located in the heart of the house and benefits from height glazed floor-to-ceiling windows that face the mountains to the south and the forest to the north. The reinterpretation of traditional elements has allowed us to find a new language, a new coherent aesthetic linked to the local tradition. A project able to interact with the environment and the tradition.

IDEA

Il progetto di recupero trasforma l’edificio esistente in una casa di vacanza per una famiglia appassionata della montagna. La ristrutturazione di questo edificio chiamato tabià (un tempo utilizzato come stalla e fienile) diventa un’opportunità per reinventare, in modo contemporaneo, un edificio fortemente legato alla tradizione agricola locale. Inserito in un terreno in pendenza, in seconda linea rispetto al bordo stradale e alle palazzine che vi si affacciano, l’edificio si sviluppa su 3 livelli: uno parzialmente interrato con struttura mista in pietra e cemento, uno intermedio con struttura a travi e pilastri in legno, dove si trova anche l’ingresso, e un sottotetto che sporge a sbalzo su tutti i lati. Con l’obiettivo di rispettare il carattere dell’edificio, è stato adottato un approccio pulito e contemporaneo alla ristrutturazione: in linea con il desiderio di mantenere il fragile equilibrio e la coerenza tra la tradizione vernacolare e il carattere contemporaneo, sono stati rielaborati dettagli che conferiscono un carattere astratto e neutrale all’edificio.

PROGETTO

L’edificio è stato smontato, riconfigurato e ampliato sul lato est, proponendo una rilettura distributiva e funzionale del tabià. E’ stato ripreso lo schema distributivo tipico di questa zona montana: lo spazio interno è stato suddiviso in tre parti dove la scala occupa la porzione centrale. Nei piani bassi, che sono a stretto contatto con gli edifici esistenti dell’intorno, sono state poste camere e zone di servizio, mentre la zona giorno è stata collocata nel sottotetto, dove è possibile usufruire del bel paesaggio sulle dolomiti. L’accogliente e spazioso spazio di cucina/soggiorno si trova nel cuore della casa e beneficia di ampie vetrate a tutta altezza che si affacciano sulle montagne verso sud e sul bosco verso nord. La reinterpretazione degli elementi tradizionali ha permesso di trovare un nuovo linguaggio, una nuova estetica coerente legata alla tradizione locale. Un progetto in grado di interagire e dialogare con l’ambiente e la tradizione.
