Casa Gialla | Gon Architects

There is a popular Italian expression, il dolce far niente, which names a way of life linked to the pleasure of doing nothing, being possibly this unoccupied and idle attitude one of the ways of being in the world that most activates the creativity of the human being.
With this life philosophy, which renounces the rush and bets on a quiet existence, the casa gialla is projected, the reform of a 47m2 apartment located in a building near the very central and tourist Puerta del Sol in Madrid.
Pragmatic and enjoyable were the two starting requirements that Ceci, the owner of the house, suggested. An Italian woman from a town north of Milan, Cassano Magnago, lover of design, technology and the good life.
Under Ceci's premises, an attic space with wooden beams, dark and compartmentalized, is transformed into a bright, open and flexible place with two simple and precise actions such as demolishing and equipping.
1) The existing partition walls are removed, which divided the house excessively into different rooms, poorly lit and ventilated, and which included a living-kitchen-dining room, two bedrooms, a small bathroom and a ramshackle terrace.
2) The perimeter of the house is occupied with fragments of a storage system with different heights, the main one being a permeable and linear piece of furniture with 5.60 meters long, 60 centimeters deep, 2.30 meters high and mustard yellow.
This perimeter storage operation frees up the center of the dwelling, which becomes a large, flexible, multifunctional rectangular room measuring 7 x 2.5 meters, linked to a south-west-facing terrace. In this central space, which has few and light furnishings such as a circular table, two chairs, a sofa, a side table and a countertop with wheels, most of the domestic activities take place; it is the place to cook, eat, work, read, and even sleep thanks to a folding bed hidden in the back wall.
The program of the rest of the house includes the bedroom overlooking the multifunctional room through a window, a bathroom - with the shower separated from the toilet and sink - with double access, and a terrace linked to the central space through a step turned 30º where there are three characteristic elements of an hedonistic life: a shower, a bathtub and plants.
The casa gialla is an oasis of optimism in the middle of the city designed for Ceci's enjoyment, alone or in company; it is an urban refuge that, as opposed to the exclusively functional house-machine, claims a playful and sensual domestic space where a non-productive time inside is possible and the senses are one more construction material.
In other words, the project favors the unexpected and contemplative life. It is possible that, lying on the mattress that covers the bathtub on the terrace on a hot summer afternoon, Ceci half asleep may come to think, as Bioy Casares says in The Invention of Morel, that the world is made up exclusively of sensations.

Existe una expresión popular italiana, il dolce far niente, que nombra un modo de vida vinculado al placer de no hacer nada, siendo posiblemente esta actitud desocupada y ociosa una de las formas de estar en el mundo que más activan la creatividad del ser humano. 

Con esta filosofía de vida, que renuncia a las prisas y apuesta por una existencia reposada, se proyecta la casa gialla, la reforma de un piso de 47 m2 situado en un edificio cerca de la muy céntrica y turística Puerta del Sol de Madrid.

Pragmática y para disfrutar fueron los dos requisitos de partida que nos plantea Ceci, la propietaria de la vivienda; una mujer italiana de una localidad del norte de Milán, Cassano Magnago, amante del diseño, la tecnología y la buena vida. 

Bajo las premisas de Ceci se transforma un espacio abuhardillado con vigas de madera, oscuro y compartimentado, en un lugar luminoso, diáfano y flexible a partir de dos acciones sencillas y precisas como son demoler y equipar.

 1) Se eliminan los tabiques existentes, que dividían en exceso la casa en distintas estancias, escasamente iluminadas y ventiladas, y que incluían un salón-cocina-comedor, dos habitaciones, un pequeño baño y una terraza destartalada.

 2) Se ocupa el perímetro de la casa con fragmentos de un sistema de almacenaje a distintas alturas, siendo el principal un mueble permeable y lineal de 5.60 metros de longitud, 60 centímetros de profundidad, 2.30 metros de altura y de color amarillo mostaza.

Esta operación de almacenamiento perimetral libera el centro de la vivienda, que se convierte en una gran habitación rectangular flexible y multifuncional de 7 x 2,5 metros, vinculada a una terraza orientada al sur-oeste. En este espacio central, que cuenta con pocos y ligeros muebles como una mesa circular, dos sillas, un sofá, una mesilla y una encimera con ruedas, tienen lugar la mayor parte de las acciones domésticas; en ella se cocina, se come, se trabaja, se lee, incluso se duerme gracias a una cama abatible que hay escondida en la pared del fondo.  

El programa del resto de la vivienda comprende la habitación con vistas a la sala multifuncional a través de una ventana, un baño -con la ducha separada del inodoro y el lavabo- con doble acceso, y una terraza vinculada con el espacio central a través de un escalón girado 30º donde se encuentran tres elementos característicos de una vida hedonista: una ducha, una bañera y plantas.

La casa gialla es un oasis de optimismo en medio de la ciudad diseñado para el disfrute de Ceci, sola o en compañía; es un refugio urbano que, frente a la casa-máquina exclusivamente funcional, se reivindica un espacio lúdico y sensual doméstico donde un tiempo no productivo dentro de ella es posible y los sentidos son un material más de construcción.

Dicho en otras palabras, el proyecto favorece lo inesperado y la vida contemplativa. Es posible que ahí, tumbada sobre la colchoneta que cubre la bañera de la terraza, una calurosa tarde de verano, Ceci puede llegar a pensar medio dormida, como dice Bioy Casares en La invención de Morel, que el mundo está constituido exclusivamente por sensaciones.
