Railway station restaurant Prague / Czech Rep. / 2021
Masaryčka restaurant was created in the historical building on Prague´s second most important railway station, having the same nickname. The space it is located in was originally created as a Emperor´s restaurant, at that time Czechia was under the rule of Franz Josef I., emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The task was to combine modern gastronomy and contemporary design with the historical interiors. As not much of the original elements was preserved, only the columns and the decorative ceiling, architects of the archicraft studio were working also on the wall paneling. The main concept idea was linear rails and trains located on the train tracks. This element was used on walls aswell as on the metal structures of the interior.
A crucial part of the interior of a restaurant is acoustics. Wall paneling and the canopy with hanging veneer pieces were the few items we could use, as the rest of the surfaces were protected by the heritage department.
Last but least a fully operational kitchen with vast storage facilities and tank beer cooling room was placed in the basement.
