The context in which this project takes place is the real added value of the latest project signed by Puccio Collodoro Architetti.
“Casa Mura” is the name the designers gave to the residential project of a penthouse located in Gela. This house overlooks the wonderful Archeological site of “Mura Timoleotee”, important archeological evidence of the defensive system that surrounded the hill in which the ancient Greek city of Gela rose. Furthermore, the penthouse is characterized by openings on all the four sides, offering breathtaking views of the bay.

The project is characterized by a spatial composition in which attention to details, material elegance and compositional order are the basis of the entire design that reflects the enthusiasm of the two young customers and their desire to live in a tailor-made house.
Looking at the entire project it’s possible to understand the clear desire of designers to blend their typical minimal soul with the use of colors; in fact, you can see the predominance of a palette based on sage green for the living area, used for the kitchen unit and also for some other elements of furniture. The color matches perfectly with the warm teakwood essence used for the herringbone parquet of the living area. The most remarkable detail in this area is a window that faces the entrance, treated as a painting and so contoured by a covering made in beveled wood at 45° that frames the surrounding landscape, showing unique natural sceneries.

From the distributive hallway you have access to the two bedrooms, the guest bathroom, the studio and the master bedroom. Latter is distinguished by a powder pink band that identifies the headboard and became a niche for a dresser. The same color is used also for the ensuite bathroom where the only contrasting element is the shower made in aquamarine color.

Casa Mura is a residential project realized in Gela, a city located along the south coast of Sicily, placed into a context distinguished by newly built buildings.
The penthouse, characterized by openings on all the four sides, offers breathtaking views of the bay and the Archeological site of “Mura Timoleotee”, important archeological evidence of the defensive system that surrounded the hill in which the ancient Greek city of Gela rose in 689 b.C., founded by colonists from Rhodes and Crete and permanently destroyed in 282 b.C.

Kind of atmosphere we wanted to create

Casa Mura is the first residential project realized in Gela in which the use of color, implemented by the minimal taste of the designers, stands out the most.
The will was to create an atmosphere that is contemporary and capable of show the strong and distinctive personality of the interior spaces at the same time. An atmosphere that reflects the enthusiasm of the two young customers and their desire to live in a tailor-made house.

Attention to details, material elegance and compositional order are the basis of the entire project, where the light represents one more element to emphasize the details of the materials and highlight the spaces. The architectural composition is emphasized by the geometric rigor and by the use of a wise blend of materials and colors.

Chosen materials and why

The selection of materials distinguishing Casa Mura is essentially based on pastel color palettes tastefully juxtaposed to the wood essence. Specifically, the living area sees a predominance of the use of sage green color, used for the kitchen unit that is installed on a hexagonal pavement that contrasts and clearly separates it from the living area, which is characterized by an teakwood herringbone parquet that gives elegance to the room. Furthermore, the living area is characterized by an imponent corner sofa facing the TV wall.

The entire sleeping area, except for the bathrooms, is characterized by the same oakwood essence of the living area; the master bedroom is characterized by the predominance of powder pink color, used for the horizontal band of the bed area and as wall cladding for the ensuite bathroom, where the only contrasting element is the shower realized in aquamarine color.

Difficulties we met and solutions we found

The main difficulty was to think of a new space distribution considering the openings on all the four sides of the building; we had to consider the trajectory of the sun and so the light, but also the various sights enjoyable from each side.
The composition has been thought to enhance the light in the interior areas, but also to give suggestive views. Another difficulty met was the design for the false ceiling since strictly connected to the roof coverage characterized by some pitch with three different inclinations and variable heights. Among the solutions we found, in agreement with the customers, we chose to reproduce the original pitch profile even with the use of the false ceiling that allowed us to manage the plant engineering and to expand in height the notion of space.

Il contesto in cui si inserisce, è sicuramente il valore aggiunto dell’ultimo intervento firmato Puccio Collodoro Architetti.
“Casa Mura”, cosi i progettisti hanno ribattezzato il progetto residenziale di un attico situato nella città di Gela, che si affaccia appunto sul meraviglioso Parco Archeologico della “Mura Timoleotee” costituendo dunque un’importantissima testimonianza archeologica del sistema difensivo che cingeva la collina sulla quale sorgeva l’antica città greca di Gela. L’attico è inoltre contraddistinto da aperture su tutti e quattro i lati, offrendo viste mozzafiato sul golfo della città.
L’intervento è caratterizzato da una composizione spaziale in cui lo studio dei dettagli, l’eleganza materica e l’ordine compositivo diventano elementi generanti del progetto, che rispecchia l’entusiasmo dei due giovani committenti e del loro desiderio di vivere una casa pensata su misura per loro.
Nell’intero intervento emerge chiaramente la volontà dei progettisti di combinare il carattere minimale che li contraddistingue con l’uso dei colori; a predominare, infatti, è una palette colori basata sul verde salvia per la zona living, adoperata sia sul blocco cucina che su alcuni complementi d’arredo, sposandosi elegantemente con l’essenza calda del rovere usato per il parquet spina di pesce che caratterizza l’intera zona living. Qui è presente un dettaglio che si fa sicuramente notare, cioè una finestra posta frontalmente all’ingresso, che è stata trattata come un quadro, cioè contornata da un rivestimento in legno smussato a 45 °, che incornicia il paesaggio circostante, regalando scenari naturali unici nel suo genere.
Dal corridoio distributivo, si ha accesso alle due camere da letto, al bagno ospiti, allo studio ed alla camera da letto matrimoniale. Questa è contraddistinta da una fascia orizzontale in rosa cipria, che individua la testa del letto, diventando nicchia per una cassettiera. Lo stesso tono è utilizzato in maniera più decisa all’interno del bagno in camera, dove contrasta soltanto il volume della doccia, trattato invece con un tono verde acqua.
