Café Kontejner | collarch

In the heart of Prague 7 - Holešovice, a temporary building from recycled shipping containers grew on Orten Square. With its rough industrial aesthetics, it refers to the industrial history of Holešovice. Its content follows the current changes in this city district: The rough, black shell hides a pleasant city café which opens up to its surroundings with large-scale glazing in the facade of the aged and used containers.

Three shipping containers. Two, forming the base of the café, are located parallel to the main street. However, they open their facade towards the park. The mass of both containers is an optical and sound curtain for quiet sitting in the park zone. The third container is an observatory on the upper floor of the café. Observe and be observed. The landmark on the square is placed obliquely, seemingly randomly, on the other two containers. However, this is a thoughtful move. The rotation creates two terraces with a view of the surroundings and the mass of the container becomes a clear element visible from the main access axes.

The use of a sober color palette and basic industrial materials is accentuated in the interior by a precisely processed, atypical detail. Visitors find themselves at the intersection of two realities: a rough industrial product and a boutique-café. This is also how we perceive the current spirit of Holešovice. Its essence is personified by our structure: like the romanticized industrial heritage of Holešovice, it stands on the border of rejection (older generation) and embracement (younger generation). Dialogue of opinions. The mainstay of the specific expression of this city district.

Café Interior

The absence of rich, contrasting colors in the interior makes the shades of gray and silver stand out. The textures of the hard surfaces are complemented by the fine fabric of the curtains colored only by the sun and park greenery, entering the interior through large-scale glazing. Sitting with a coffee becomes a dreamy, surreal experience detached from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets.

The corrugated steel used in the interior as a wall cladding wittily corresponds to the window curtains. It forms a second curtain hiding the back-of-house, toilets and technical room. It guides the visitor through the ground floor layout and clearly marks the mass of the staircase.

There are two bars in the café. The one on the ground floor is composed of a simple black steel structure filled with dark, writable boards. The bar is located at the entrance to the café, in an alcove lined with galvanized corrugated steel. The second bar on the first floor is sandwiched between two longitudinal glazed facades. A similar steel structure is filled with densely perforated galvanized metal sheets. The reflectivity and partial transparency of the material used lightens the mass of the bar and makes it look airy and elegant.

The toilets, discreetly located behind a black-painted door, are a distinctive color deviation, contrasting with the concept of the rest of the café. A clear, even garish color concept enlivens an otherwise routine experience.

The cafe is designed for year-round operation and equipped with all the necessary technology, from underfloor heating to a powerful air conditioning unit. Forced air exchange is solved visibly in the form of spiro-pipes, which form a significant design element in the interior and complete its industrial aesthetics. Most of the built-in electrical installations are controlled from a single central panel with switches in the form of a simple, elegant matt-black steel plate, inserted into a galvanized corrugated steel wall.

Cafe Logotype

The graphic style and logotype of the café is also designed by Collarch. The logotype is based on several stacked containers in the shape of the letter K. LED-neon signs on the facade, logos on coffee pots and culinary products or the café-website all use this motif in several selected variations.

Kavárna Kontejner

V srdci Prahy 7 na Ortenově náměstí vyrostla dočasná stavba z recyklovaných lodních kontejnerů. Svou hrubou industriální estetikou odkazuje k průmyslové historii Holešovic. Svým obsahem navazuje na současné proměny této městské čtvrti. Hrubá, černá skořápka skrývá příjemnou městskou kavárnu, jež se velkoplošným prosklením v průřezech starých a omlácených kontejnerů otevírá svému okolí.

Tři lodní kontejnery. Dva, tvořící základnu kavárny, jsou umístěny paralelně s hlavní ulicí. Svou fasádu však otevírají směrem do parku. Hmota obou kontejnerů je optickou a zvukovou clonou pro klidné posezení v parkové zóně. Třetí kontejner je pozorovatelna v patře kavárny. Pozorovat a být pozorován. Orientační bod na náměstí je posazený našikmo, zdánlivě nahodile, na zbylé dva kontejnery. Jde však o promyšlený tah. Natočením vznikají dvě terasy s výhledem do okolí a hmota kontejneru se stává jasným prvkem viditelným z hlavních přístupových os.

Použití střídmé barevné palety a základních průmyslových materiálů je v interiéru akcentováno precizně zpracovaným, atypickým detailem. Návštěvník, zákazník se nachází v průsečíku dvou realit: hrubého průmyslového produktu a boutigue-café.

Takto vnímáme i současného ducha Holešovic. Jeho esence je perzonifikována naší stavbou. Stojí stejně jako zromantizované industriální dědictví Holešovic na hranici odmítání (starší generací) a objímání (mladší generací). Dialog názorů. Nosný pilíř specifického výrazu této městské čtvrti.

Interiér kavárny

Absence sytých, kontrastních barev v interiéru dává vyniknout valérám šedé a stříbrné. Textury tvrdých povrchů jsou doplněny jemnou textilií závěsů probarvených sluncem a parkovou zelení, vstupující dovnitř velkoplošným zasklením. Posezení u kávy se stává snovým, surrealistickým zážitkem odtrženým od spěchu a stresu okolních ulic.

Vlnitý plech použitý v interiéru jako obklad stěn vtipně koresponduje s okenními závěsy. Tvoří druhou oponu skrývající zázemí kavárny, toalety a technickou místnost. Naviguje návštěvníka středem dispozice přízemí a jasně vyznačuje hmotu schodiště. 

V kavárně se nachází dva bary. Ten v přízemí je sestaven z jednoduché černá ocelové konstrukce vyplněné tmavými popisovatelnými deskami. Bar je umístěn u vstupu do kavárny, v nice obložené pozinkovaným vlnitým plechem. Druhý bar v patře je sevřený mezi dvě podélné prosklené fasády. Obdobná jeklová konstrukce je vyplněna hustě perforovaným pozinkovaným plechem. Odrazivost a částěčná průhlednost použitého materiálu odlehčuje hmotu baru, který při správném dopadu slunečního světla působí vzdušně a elegantně.

Toalety, diskrétně umístěné za černě natřenými dveřmi, jsou výraznou barevnou deviací, kontrastující s konceptem zbytku kavárny. Jasné, až křiklavé barevné pojetí oživuje jinak rutinní zážitek.

Kavárna je navržena pro celoroční provoz a vybavena veškerou potřebnou technologií od podlahového topení po výkonnou klimatizační jednotku. Nutnost výměny vzduchu je řešena viditelně v podobě spiro-potrubí, které tvoří výrazný designový prvek v interiéru a dotváří jeho industríální estetiku. Většina zabudovaných elektroinstalací je ovládána z jednoho centrálního panelu s vypínači v podobě jednoduché, elegantní matně-černé ocelové desky, vsazené do pozinkovaného vlnitého plechu.

Logotyp kavárny

Z dílny Collarch je i grafický styl a logotyp kavárny, který vychází z několika, na sebe naskládaných kontejnerů do tvaru písmene K. LED-neonové nápisy na fasádě, loga na kávových hrncích a kulinářských produktech i grafika webových stránek zobrzuje tento motiv v několika vybraných variacích.
