CX Torino Regina | Rizoma Architetture

The project of CX TURIN REGINA opens its doors inside a building overlooking the river Po, that housed an institution of Turin, the Edizioni San Paolo.

CX Turin Regina is the first structure open after the rebranding of Campus X; the evolution of society, while honouring the original ideals, materialises for the first time in Turin in a new building with 89 student rooms and 32 hotel rooms.

The project stems from the desire to create a focus point addressed to the city: the building won’t be neither a simple hotel nor a student residence. The aim of CX is to have a space for common activities on the ground floor, connected to the city; the large glass walls of the cafeteria and the gym are completely open and visible from outside, drawing attention to the activities and the program that comes to life inside. The ground floor won’t be in fact for the exclusive use of the students, but its spaces are going to be available all day long both for the guests of the hotel and for the citizens.

The highlight of the new CX is to create a new community of students and guests, that use the common areas in a free and flexible way: the cafeteria on the ground floor, with lounge areas and community table, the gym and the study hall that are opposed to one another like the dualism Corpore & Mens (Body&Mind); on the second floor, the shared kitchen and the terrace for the students’ lunch breaks and, going up, the panoramic rooftop on the 8th floor, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view over river Po and the hills around Turin.

The furniture of the common areas joins iconic design items and Italian production; there are in fact many custom elements developed ad hoc for the needs of each space and for the flexible use that it’s going to be made. For each element we can notice a refinement in chromaticism, in the finishing of the materials and in the design of the shapes.

The study of the colour is not just limited to the furniture, but it’s reflected also in the colours and the architectural finishes: a constant contrast between pop and soft colours, hard and soft materials and natural textures and shiny mirrored finishings.

The explosive mood of the common areas seems to find rest inside the rooms, the intent of CX is to create for each guest a familiar and personal space.

Each student has available a single room with wide view, equipped with all comforts for la long stay. All the rooms are designed to be comfortable and cosy for the new student or for his/her friends; the bed, designed to be used also as couch, enables you to watch TV in total comfort or to play video games.

The project involves the redevelopment of a former office building that has been converted to student housing.

From the energy point of view, the plants have been modernised according to the latest standards; on the building envelope the original features of the building have been preserved.

The interior project involved civil finishes Craddle to Craddle in particular with the use of vinyl flooring with recycled and recyclable raw materials.

Mainly Italian and Italian companies were selected for the furniture and for the interior civil finishes. The custom furniture was made by Italian companies within 200 km from the installation site.

Il progetto di CX TURIN REGINA apre le sue porte all’interno di un edificio affacciato sul Po che ospitava un’istituzione torinese, le Edizioni San Paolo.

CX Turin Regina è la prima struttura aperta dopo il rebranding di Campus X; l’evoluzione della società, mantenendo saldi gli ideali originali, si concretizza per la prima volta a Torino in una nuova struttura di 89 camere studenti e 32 camere ad uso Hotel.

Il progetto nasce dalla volontà di creare un focus point rivolto alla città: la struttura non sarà né un semplice hotel né uno studentato. L’obiettivo di CX è quello di avere al piano terra uno spazio per le attività comuni interconnesso con la città: le grandi vetrate della caffetteria e la palestra sono completamente aperte e visibili all’esterno attirando l’attenzione sulle attività e sul programma che prende vita al suo interno. Il piano terra infatti non sarà ad uso esclusivo degli studenti ma i suoi spazi saranno fruibili nell’intera giornata sia dagli ospiti dell’hotel che dai cittadini di passaggio.

Il punto di forza del nuovo CX è quello di creare una nuova comunità di studenti e ospiti che usano in modo libero e flessibile gli spazi comuni: a piano terra la caffetteria con zone lounge e community table, la palestra e la sala studio che si contrappongono come il dualismo Corpore & Mens (Body&Mind); al secondo piano la cucina comune e la terrazza per le pause pranzo degli studenti e, salendo, il rooftop panoramico all’8° piano da cui godere una vista mozzafiato del Po e delle colline torinesi.

Gli arredi delle aree comuni uniscono pezzi iconici di design e produzione italiana; sono presenti infatti molti elementi custom studiati ad hoc per le esigenze di ciascun spazio e per l’uso flessibile che ne verrà fatto. Per ogni componente si ripete una ricercatezza nei cromatismi, nelle finiture dei materiali e nel design delle forme.

Lo studio del colore non si limita all’arredo, ma si riflette anche sui colori e sulle finiture architettoniche: un continuo contrasto tra colori pop e soft, tra materiali duri e morbidi e tra texture naturali e finiture lucide specchianti.

Il mood esplosivo degli spazi comuni sembra trovar pace nelle camere, l’intento di CX infatti è quello di ricreare per ciascun ospite un ambiente familiare e personale.

Ciascun studente ha a disposizione una camera singola con ampia vista dotata di ogni comfort per una lunga permanenza. Ogni camera è pensata per essere comoda ed accogliente per il nuovo studente o per i sui amici; il letto pensato per essere usato anche come un divano permette di poter vedere comodamente la TV o di poter giocare una partita ai videogiochi.

Il progetto prevede la riqualificazione di un ex edificio ad uso uffici che è stato riconvertito a student Housing.

Dal punto di vista energetico sono state previsti ammodernamenti degli impianti secondo gli ultimi standard; sull’involucro dell’edificio sono state conservate le caratteristiche originali dell’edificio.

Il progetto di interior ha previsto finiture civili Craddle to Craddle in particolare con l’uso di pavimentazioni viniliche con materie prime riciclate e riciclabili.

Per l’arredo e per le finiture civili interne sono state selezionate prevalentemente aziende italiane e di produzione italiana. L’arredo custom è stato realizzato da aziende italiane nel giro di 200 km dal Luogo di installazione.
