Ten years ago, owner of American fashion label fell in love with a house in the Hamptons. By extending the house with an 80m2 outdoor deck, the family got its ideal refuge for outdoor living and summers away from the city.

Bridgehampton is a small community nestled between East & Southampton known as the go-to location for New York high society on Long Island, New York. As a designated part of Southampton, the small community is a magnet for summer tourists longing for the beach, surf, and sand.

From potato barn to summer residence
This Hamptons home sits on three acres of land encircled by trees and with proximity to the beach. When the family bought the house in 2012, it was not an extensive renovation that awaited the house. They wanted to keep the old ceiling constructions, a reminiscent of the building’s history as a potato barn. Dominant throughout the house is a two-tone interior of bright whites contrasted with wooden details. White walls, plenty of natural light from windows, and a white-wonder of a kitchen island make this home ooze of summertime.

As to why the owner chose the white kitchen island from Danish design brand Vipp, they explain: “I was on the lookout for a freestanding modular kitchen and the google results turned my attention to Vipp.” As a fairly new player in the kitchen business, Vipp initially turned down the request of transporting their European-produced kitchen over the Atlantic due to geographical distance and difference in consumer regulations. “But this was the kitchen I wanted, so I insisted, and here it is!”, says the owner.

As opposed to a customized kitchen, the family chose these predefined kitchen modules from Vipp, delivered as finished products designed down to the last details – even tap, grips, drawer inserts, and the 4 mm stainless steel tabletop are designed by Vipp. Contrasting the bright space is a spiral staircase in steel and wood giving access to the upper floor bedrooms.

Adding a touch of life to the white-coated kitchen is the array of softly shaped ceramics and colored glass. Colour is invited inside through the floor to ceiling windows framing the wandering leaves and branches and making nature a dominant part of the interior.

Outdoor bliss
During the summer, the house lives out its full potential as a destination for recharging. With help from a garden architect the family extended the living space with an 80m2 large deck accommodating an outdoor kitchen with fireplace and oven, a lounge area kept in in the shadows by a pergola creating a small oasis in nature.
