The project is part of the urban context of the city of Venice in the Mestre hinterland. The area is densely populated, and currently, on the footprint of the project building there is a public car park, and across the street, the Tiziano Vecellio elementary school.
In the past, here was the Villa Ponci, with its immense park, hence the name of the area: Parco Ponci.
Due to building speculations, the Villa and the Park were demolished, to make room for the residential buildings that now make up the space.
It is from this perspective of the greening of the urban fabric and the recovery from the past that the project: Garden Museum was born.
The idea is simple: raise the ground where vegetation normally lies, and conceive a lively, dynamic and public green cover.
The shape of the museum is a parallelepiped with two important characteristics. The first, a very large covered entrance form a square in front of the entry that is completely covered.
On the upper floor of the square is the conference room, which is supported by only four pillars and a coffered attic.
The second is a long portico that does not create discontinuity with the pedestrian crossings already existing in that area.
The internal exhibition rooms cover 2/3 the size of the ground and first floors, leaving the rest to the services.
The top floor is iconic.
An urban park 9 meters above the ground, protected by an important metal roof, which in some areas (such as those of the restaurant and the bookshop) is closed by glass panels, and in others, that of the park itself, the spaces are left empty to provide light, water and visibility to the plants.
