Building basics:
VALO Hotel & Work is a multifunctional building combining hotel and office services. VALO Helsinki opened in 2020 and consists of 422 hotel rooms, co-working spaces, 13 meeting and event facilities, Bistro ELO, Bar SUO and wellness area with saunas on the rooftop. The main entrance hall, courtyard lobby, is a public space for anyone to spend time.

VALO Design:
VALO’s design philosophy is based on the Finnish aesthetic, high-quality details and feeling at home in a foreign place. Though the atmosphere can differ dramatically between spaces, (a harmonious whole is created) the whole experience is harmonious. The main design themes are local, Nordic materials, nature and sustainability. Surface materials and furniture are largely made from locally sourced Nordic wood which has a very low carbon footprint.

VALO concept:

VALO Hotel & Work combines a hotel and an office into one. It brings all the services from a high-end hotel into the work environment, and the vibrant energy from a workspace into the hush of a hotel. VALO offers diverse services for work, wellbeing and leisure around the clock. VALO is a Finnish innovation created by the happiest people in the world taking sustainable real estate to a whole new level.

VALO Hotel & Work is a pioneering project offering a sustainable interior and an innovative solution to one of the most pressing issues in interior architecture and real estate i.e. low utilisation rates.

The idea of VALO was conceived when one of VALO’s founders, a frequent business traveller, saw the same people migrating between hotels and offices, leaving one empty while they used the other. The commute creates carbon dioxide emissions while the underused and vacant buildings waste energy and natural resources. VALO offers a viable solution to this global problem. By combining all relevant business services into one, VALO significantly reduces emissions and waste. We’ve invested a great deal in innovating a way to combine two services into one space and creating a building that will have next to no vacancy periods.

VALO Helsinki is the first VALO Hotel & Work and we’re well on our way to becoming an international chain. We have developed an accelerated growth strategy which will see new VALO ventures appear in suitable cities in the near future.

Did you know that in Finnish, the word ‘valo’ means light? Light is central to our design principle and our philosophy. We breathe new light into stagnant and vacant buildings. The first VALO Hotel & Work, located in Helsinki, is proof of concept, and we hope the world takes note. This innovation is not only ours, it should be how we all build in the future.
