…”Perfectly linear, without any concession towards the décor… the rhythm is given from the play of basic volumes, which is one of the elements of foundation of Greek and Renaissance architecture”. This is the way Giuseppe Pagano commented the Novocomum project of Giuseppe Terragani in 1930. It is not rare for the world’s architecture to be faced with the choice of angle. The case of Novocomum of Terragani built in Como, Italy, in 1927, clearly represents one of them and, by no doubt, constitutes one the most accomplished examples of angle choice.

It is said that if you have come up with a good title, you have written almost an entire novel. The same analogy can be drawn to the architecture of this residential building, where the ground floor is indented for stores and commercial space. The angle choice, in a way, was “the beginning and the end” of the project and determined the entire architecture of the building in both formal and functional aspects. This choice has taken into consideration the fluidity of the bottom part, where the building meets with the sidewalk and the movement of the people. The angle choice has also emphasized the formal expressionism of the upper part of the building through a geometric rule – a spatial geometry of simple volumes which stands out even more due to the different treatment of their facades.

Despite its transatlantic size, the building seems to accommodate in its location. The building’s architecture looks to enter its surroundings as much as it can be allowed to, while mastering a new and surprising language which simply and clearly expresses the desire to build, to build well and within the certain neighborhood costs, without being closed in the shell of on “idealistic” project.

...”Përsosmërisht linear, pa asnjë konçension ndaj dekorit...ritmi është dhënë nga loja e volumeve elementarë,që qëndron në themel të arkitektutës greke dhe të Rilindjes”. Me këto fjalë komentonte më 1930 Giuseppe Pagano projektin e Novocomum të Giuseppe Terragni-t. Arkitektura botërore jo rrallë është përballur me zgjidhjen e këndit , por nëse do të na duhej të citonim njërin prej tyre dhe një nga më të realizuarit padyshim që ky do të ishte rasti i Novocomum i Terragni-t i ndërtuar në Como më 1927.
Thuhet se po të kesh gjetur një titull të mirë ke bërë pothuaj një roman. E njëjta gjë mund të thuhet edhe për arkitekturën e këtij pallati banimi ku kati përdhe është i destinuar për dyqane. Zgjidhja e këndit përbënte fundin dhe fillimin e këtij projekti. Kjo zgjidhje tërhiqte pas tërë arkitekturën e tij, si nga ana formale ashtu dhe nga ajo funksionale. Kjo zgjidhje ka patur parasysh fluiditetin në pjesën e poshtme ku takohej me trotuarin dhe lëvizjen e njerëzve dhe ekspresionizmin formal në pjesën e sipërme nëpërmjet një rregulli gjeometrik, një gjeometrie hapësinore të volumeve të thjeshta. Këto volume vihen në pah edhe më tepër me anë të trajtimit të ndryshëm të fasadave të tyre.
Megjithëse në madhësinë e një transatlantiku ky pallat kërkon të ambjentohet në vendin e tij. Arkitektura e tij kërkon të hyjë në mjsdisin përreth po aq sa dhe lejon këtë të marrë pjesë në të, duke qenë zot i një gjuhe të re dhe befasuese për të shprehur qartë e thjeshtë dëshirën për të ndërtuar, për të ndërtuar mirë dhe brenda kostove të periferi së por pa u mbyllur në guaskën e projektimit utopik.
