For many Americans experiencing homelessness, adapting and transitioning to a life away from the streets can be a very stressful and difficult process. The Not In My Back Yard series of concept studies, (NIMBY 04) is meant to help in this transition. We wanted to explore the idea of housing between existing structures within industrial areas of metropolitan cities such as Los Angeles. Using prefabricated structural insulated panels, these 340 sf two-story housing units steer away from the traditional box seen in many transitional housing projects. Following the experiences learned from previous NIMBY exercises, we wanted to share a place of color and contrast to the concrete warehouses and asphalt paved roads as a way of giving back to the community.
