Located at the Rhein River in Basel, the new building for the Biozentrum Basel was developed by Swiss architecture office Ilg Santer Architekten Zürich and inaugurated in September 2021. The tower building consists of 19 floors and provides research facilities, lecture halls, seminar rooms and scientific equipment for 400 researchers and 900 students on a floor area of 23,400 square metres.
Connecting the floors of the tower and the basement levels is the entrance hall which spans three floors and serves as a place of arrival. It is characterized by open floor slabs in the shape of circular islands with spiral staircases connecting the islands across all floors. From the entrance hall, classrooms, the library, workshops and a cafeteria can be accessed.
