An incomplete and empty ground floor of an apartment building in Agios Nikolaos, Crete is redesigned in order to function as a dental clinic. The limitation of space and its difficult allocation had to be overcome and a hospitable clinic had to be created. At the same time, the new space had to meet the required specifications and serve the functional requirements. After trying out many different alternatives, the above difficulties were overcome using the curve as our main architectural tool.

The curve enters the space and shapes it, the curve welcomes, the curve separates, the curve smoothes, the curve hides and reveals. Once you enter the clinic, a curved translucent acrylic glass welcomes you into the space. The Plexiglass acquires a semi-transparent appearance in order to hide the presence of shelves and cabinets in the inside but slightly allows the diffusion of the blue color. The only element it reveals is a Pietra Gray marble slab, which stands out and highlights the reception desk. The reception area is completed by two couches.

In the main space, there are the two doctor’s offices. The curve appears again. This time a curved glass functions as a reference point and directs the movement inwards. The corridor’s wall leading to the offices is covered by metal surface which diffuse the light of the linear lighting and emphasizes the movement. The main doctor's office is covered by wood and stands out in the space as it dominates through its materiality and geometry. The high solid oak door predisposes the entrance to the main office. The two individual offices are separated from each other by unbleached glass, which defines the limits of visibility between them in order to align with working independence standards. The lighting design and elements follow and emphasize our architectural choices as well as complete the space’s atmosphere.
