Riel – Il Fienile | monovolume architecture + design

To the South of Bolzano, the Riel district offers a new, smart and sustainable housing model. The new residential complex "Riel-Il fienile" has a total of 38 residential units ranging from one- to four-room apartments and was built to host young workers and couples in a strategically located area close to the industrial zone and the city centre.

The project creates a green and smart environment with a communal park at its centre. This open area with relaxation, fitness and sports areas for residents is the true heart of the project. This green space is enriched by smart technologies such as Wi- Fi connection for smart working, charging stations for electric cars as well as bike sheds and a parcel repository with smart lock technology. Vertical plants such as oaks, maple trees, crape myrtles and tulip trees characterise the green space. Horizontal flower beds made of metal that can be used as urban gardens with spices, fruit trees and vines offer a contrast to the verticality of the trees.

The project consists of the construction of two new buildings and the revitalisation of an old barn, whereby the double pitch roof and the supporting columns of the latter are preserved and integrated into the new structure. The "old" thereby communicates and interacts with the "new" and accommodates the latter on its inside, maintaining a certain respectful distance that creates space for new and interesting spaces. Light enters the interior of the barn through deliberate geometric cuts in the roof and walls of the existing structure.

The two new buildings embody the stylistic evolution, characterised by large terraces and a façade whose rhythm is broken by vertical bronze-coloured slats that rise to the roof and alternate with the supporting structure of cross-laminated timber. In addition to the respectful approach between old and new, the architectural intervention aims to leave the supporting structure of the buildings visible. The fusion with the surrounding landscape creates a new residential model with an urban feel in connection with the surrounding orchards and the Dolomites. The upgrading of this area reinterprets the interplay between historical memory and smart future in a contemporary way.

Das Zusammenspiel historischer Erinnerung und smarter Zukunft

In Bozen Süd bietet die Zone Riel ein neues, smartes und nachhaltiges Wohnmodell. Die neue Wohnanlage „Riel-Il fienile“ verfügt über insgesamt 38 Wohneinheiten von der Ein- bis zur Vierzimmerwohnung und bietet jungen Arbeitern und Familien ein Zuhause in einer strategisch gelegenen Zone, die mit der Industriezone und dem Stadtzentrum im Dialog steht.

Das Projekt schafft eine grüne und smarte Umgebung mit einem gemeinschaftlichen Park in der Mitte. Dieser offene Bereich mit Entspannungs-, Fitness- und Sportbereichen für die Bewohner ist das wahre Herzstück der Anlage. Bereichert wird der Park durch smarte Technologien wie WiFi-Verbindung für Smart Working, Ladestationen für Elektroautos sowie Fahrradabstellplätze und Paketdepot mit Smart- Lock-System. Vertikale Bepflanzungen wie Eichen, Ahornbäume, Kräuselmyrten und Tulpenbäume zeichnen die Grünfläche aus. Einen Kontrast zur Vertikalität der Bäume bilden horizontale Blumenbeete aus Metall, die als urbane Gärten mit Gewürzen, Obstbäumen und Kletterpflanzen genutzt werden können.

Das Projekt besteht aus der Errichtung zweier Neubauten und der Revitalisierung einer alten Scheune, wobei das Satteldach und die tragenden Säulen ebendieser beibehalten und in die neue Struktur integriert werden. Das „Alte“ kommuniziert und interagiert dabei mit dem „Neuen“ und beherbergt dieses in seinem Inneren, wobei es einen gewissen Respektabstand einnimmt, das Platz für neue und interessante Zwischenräume schafft. Das Licht gelangt ins Innere der Scheune durch bewusste geometrische Einschnitte im Dach und den Wänden der Bestandsstruktur.

Die beiden Neubauten verkörpern die stilistische Entwicklung, gekennzeichnet durch große Terrassen und eine Fassade, deren Rhythmus durch vertikale bronzefarbene Lamellen durchbrochen wird, welche sich bis zur Überdachung hochziehen und mit der tragenden Struktur aus Brettsperrholz abwechseln. Neben der respektvollen Annäherung zwischen Alt und Neu zielt der Entuwrf darauf ab, das strukturelle Skelett der Gebäude sichtbar zu machen. Durch die Verschmelzung mit der umliegenden Landschaft entsteht ein neues Wohnmodell mit urbanem Feeling in Verbindung mit den umliegenden Apfelwiesen und den Dolomiten. Die Aufwertung dieser Zone reinterpretiert auf zeitgenössische Art und Weise das Zusammenspiel von historischer Erinnerung und smarter Zukunft.

L’incontro tra memoria storica e futuro smart nel quartiere Riel

La zona Sud di Bolzano si estende proponendo un nuovo modello di abitare smart e sostenibile nel nuovo quartiere Riel. Il nuovo complesso residenziale “Riel-Il fienile”, con un totale di 38 abitazioni dal monolocale al quadrilocale, nasce per ospitare giovani lavoratori e giovani coppie in una zona strategica che dialoga con l’area produttiva e il centro città.

Il progetto crea un ambiente comunitario Smart-Green, al centro, il parco comune, è il vero cuore per le relazioni, uno spazio aperto con zone relax, area fitness attrezzata, una piscina e campo da beach volley; arricchito da soluzioni smart: dalle postazioni wi-fi per lo smart working, ai posteggi per le bici e le colonnine per ricaricare le auto elettriche fino allo Smart-Lock, per il deposito dei pacchi. Una pregiata selezione di alberature verticali querce, aceri, lagerstroemia e albero di tulipano, caratterizzano il parco erboso. Per contrastare la verticalità, sono state aggiunte delle fioriere orizzontali in metallo, queste diventano un elemento di architettura condivisa, degli orti urbani, con spezie, alberi da frutto e piante rampicanti.

Il progetto consiste nella costruzione di due nuovi edifici ed il restauro di un antico fienile, una struttura agricola che conserva il tetto a falda e le colonne portanti originarie. Il “vecchio" comunica ed interagisce col “nuovo” arrivando persino ad ospitarlo al proprio interno, mantenendo la dovuta distanza di rispetto che dá luogo a nuovi spazi di filtro. La luce entra nel fienile attraverso la realizzazione di intagli geometrici sulla copertura e nelle pareti. Gli altri due edifici rappresentano l’evoluzione stilistica, caratterizzati da ampie terrazze e una facciata spezzata dal ritmo verticale delle lamelle color bronzo, che salgono fino alla copertura, alternandosi alla struttura portante in legno xlam. Oltre all’approccio rispettoso tra antico e nuovo, l’intervento architettonico intende lasciare a vista lo scheletro strutturale dei volumi.
Dalla fusione con il paesaggio circostante nasce un modello residenziale dal feeling urbano, in stretto contatto con i meléti e la silhouette delle Dolomiti.
La riqualificazione dell’area reinterpreta in chiave contemporanea l’incontro tra memoria storica e futuro smart.
