About the project:

We really enjoyed our second apartment in the Waltrovka project. Our brief was straightforward; the interior design of an apartment that our clients had just taken over from the developer. We were to design only the living room, kitchen, bedroom, and hallway.

We eventually helped our clients with the layout of the entire apartment, as we thought that the original was not ideally suitable for this family.

Mostly, we changed the layout of the living room and the kitchen. We created a connected dining table with the kitchen island that made the whole room look more unified and spacious and created a better arrangement for the TV and the sofa in the living room.

Thanks to the changes in the layout, we were able to add new storage space in the kitchen cabinets next to the oven and fridge and to increase the depth of the kitchen cabinets to 80 cm – which is above standard.

Initially, our clients suggested a mainly grey-white-black interior, but we felt that this interior would look much better in lighter and brighter colors. We presented our proposal and the client was delighted with it and picked it over the proposal which followed their suggestions.

We did not want the furniture to be classically arranged in this apartment, so we chose non-traditional asymmetric shapes for the doors, both in the kitchen and on the storage cabinets.

In the original layout, there were normal doors to the living room. However, we did not want them to be opening into the kitchen corner, so we replaced them with a sliding glass door on the wall in the hall. This meant that we had an issue with the floor finishes on the original door line, not matching up with the new. We didn’t want to demolish the floor, but nevertheless, we believed that the door had a higher priority than the differences of the floor finishes.

Regarding the hall, we wanted to use every inch of storage space, so we covered the vertical riser and inspection panel with a cabinet to create space for hangers and storage and to hide the inspection panel.

We designed and made a custom wallpaper for the bedroom. Our clients also wanted to have a corner desk for working or make-up, so we created a plinth along the entire wall, which connects all the elements and serves as bedside tables, storage, and part of the bed support.
