AB House | Architettura Tommasi
Maserà di Padova / Italy
Originally, the house belonged to the Dondi dell’Orologio family, a historic family from Padua, whose coat of arms can still be seen under the portico.
The original farmhouse consisted of a central building, which still exists today, and a “barchessa” (a traditional rural outbuilding), which was destroyed during World War II in the bombings. The building remained unused for many years, until it was purchased by a new family and subsequently restored.
The restoration project included the rehabilitation of the foundations, walls, and roof, with the replacement of some structural beams.
Natural materials were chosen to promote a sustainable approach.
The exterior walls are finished with traditional cocciopesto plaster made with lime putty, applied with a blade and brushed for a rustic finish.
In the fireplace room, the interior walls are finished with lime pastellone, and the floors are made of Venetian terrazzo.
The new staircase is made of iron and wood and was installed entirely dry during the latest interior restyling.
A new lacquered wood service block asserts its distinctiveness by inserting itself into the double-height volume of the main bedroom without interfering with the exposed beam structure and the handmade terracotta tiles.
