Six N. Five Studio Renovation | Isern Serra Studio

A serene, harmonious and majestic space, where subtlety and simplicity prevail.

The formal concept of the project is born from the idea of materiality itself, that while being part of the physical and tangible world. At the same time is related to the digital and surrealistic work of Six N. Five.
With a monochromatic and earth-toned environment, the printing of craftsmanship connects both worlds. A multidisciplinary space designed to share, achieve, but, above all, entice creativity.

The project consists of a transformation of a ground floor establishment into a workspace for Ezequiel Pini and his creative studio Six N. Five.
A multifunctional studio, aimed at offering an office space and a showroom for exhibits. Adding an area for talks and presentations, an at home workshop for producing prototypes, a leisure and virtual reality area, and a specialty coffee cafe. In short, a small multidisciplinary space, open to the city with large cultural proposals.
The space is located in Barcelona, in the neighborhood of Poblenou. A "L" shaped space, with direct street access and a large back terrace.

The program consisted of an exhibition space, a café, a warehouse, a main work area with an isolated rack, a workshop and a meeting room with kitchen.
The first decision was to clean the premises of all the existing partitions and false ceilings to recover the original concrete structure, and thus revealing the true volume of the space.
The need for a diverse set of spaces, and the imposing height, allowed us to generate a space in a mezzanine to house the workshop and storage area. This mezzanine also allows us to separate the public area from the more private areas of the studio.
The first space; faces the street and is composed of a multipurpose grandstand that extends to the rear of the premises. This area is designed as an exhibition space and also functions as a waiting area for the café. Meanwhile transforming to receive the public who come to see a talk or exhibition given by a guest speaker. Parallel to the steps is the Three Marks Coffee corner, which makes every visit more pleasant and warm with its specialty coffee.

The mezzanine can be closed with curtains both at the top and at the bottom, providing an element to divide the different areas allowing for different degrees of privacy.
The private area is composed of the studio, the workshop, the leisure area, and the meeting room including the kitchen. All these spaces are connected to a large terrace, which in addition to giving beautiful views of a wall composed of plants, also allows a very special evening sunlight to enter this space.

The space was conceived as a large architectural sanctuary where the imprint of craftsmanship is very present. Earth tones are chosen to reinforce this idea of materiality and achieved through the use of micro cement on the floor and the functional elements. The same texture is attained on the walls using the same tone of paint with an irregular plaster base.

Description of the space:

Upon entering the studio, the viewer enters into a double heighted space. The left side consists of a set of steps, running along the entire length of the space. An architectural element that in all its dimension, not only serves as seating but also an exhibition space.
To the right, under a structural arch of the building, café with a mirrored bar with stainless steel countertop made for Three Marks Coffee.

Continuing into the studio, the height of the space changes through the construction of a mezzanine. Consisting of an in house workshop, incorporating a 3D printer and a workshop table that allows for manual work. The space also includes a storage area, a rack room and the bathrooms. Designed with a wooden countertop, “Iconico” sinks and faucets and a circular mirror.
Once across the mezzanine we find a relaxation and leisure area, where the steps seamlessly convert into a circular planter and built-in sofa. The raised platform also serves as the base of a custom-made bent sheet metal staircase with tubular railing.
The custom designed sofa is upholstered with the same fabric as the curtains to achieve a sense of uniformity and connection. The coffee table is the Mineral "Coffee Table" by Ferm accompanied by the Pacha lounge chair by Gubi.

This space is structured around the large main table, made of masonry and finished with micro cement. An element made on site, which also reinforces the artisanal process and concept above all. This table can accommodate up to six artists. With the screens connected to the computers in the rack prevents visible cables other electrical elements. The table is surrounded by Herman Miller's Aeron chairs.
The parallel wall, consists of a large bookshelf, serving as a backdrop to the large work table. Exhibiting books, prototypes and objects serving as inspiration for the surrealistic world of Six N. Five.

At the back of the room, on a different level, there is an imposing kitchen and meeting room, divided by two large curtains, giving the sensation of a theater curtain and stage.
The change of level is achieved through with three continuous steps that emphasize the architectural character of the space. The custom-designed kitchen is composed of a Cosentino’s Dekton countertop and lacquered doors. The table is custom-designed and produced by Carpintería J. Vidal with eight No. 30 chairs from Ton.

The lighting project is resolved through ceiling rails and recessed downlights under the mezzanine from “LedsC4”. The Tekio lamp by Santa&Cole in the sofa area and a custom-made LED linear illuminates the large work table. The kitchen lighting is achieved through Tempo lamps by Vibia above the main table.

Un espacio sereno, armonico y majestuoso, donde prima la sutileza y la simplicidad.
El concepto formal del proyecto nace a partir de la idea de la materialidad misma, aquella que si bien forma parte del mundo fisico y tangible, al mismo tiempo tiene relacion con el trabajo digital y espacial de Six N. Five.
Con un ambiente monocromatico y de tonos color tierra, la imprenta de la artesanía se hace presente para conectar ambos mundos. Un espacio multidisciplinario pensado para compartir, para que sucedan cosas, pero por sobre todo, que invita a la creatividad.

El proyecto consiste en la rehabilitación de un local a pie de calle para transformarlo en el nuevo espacio de Ezequiel Pini y su estudio creativo Six N. Five.
Un espacio con multiples usos, principalmenteutilizado como como una oficina, pero también como showroom para exhibir objetos. Agregando una zona para presentaciones, un pequeño taller para producir pequeños prototipos, una zona de ocio y realidad virtual, y también un area de cafe especializado. En definitiva, un espacio multidisciplinario abierto a la ciudad con pequeñas propuestas culturales.
El espacio está situado en Barcelona, en el barrio del Poblenou dentro de un local en planta baja con forma de “L”. Con una entrada al pie de calle y con una extensa terraza en la parte trasera.
El programa consistía en una zona de exposición, una zona de cafetería, almacén, una zona principal de trabajo con un rack aislado, un pequeño taller y también una sala de reuniones con cocina.

La primera decisión fue la de limpiar el local de todos los tabiques y falsos techos existentes para revalorizar la estructura de hormigón original, y de esta manera enseñar el volumen real del espacio.
La diversidad de espacios a distribuir y la imponente altura, nos permitió generar un espacio en una zona superior para albergar el taller y también la zona de almacenaje. Este altillo además nos permite separar la zona pública de la zona mas privada del espacio.

La primer zona es la que da a la calle y está compuesta por una grada de multiples usos que se extiende hasta la parte trasera del local. Esta grada no solo esta pensada para exponer objetos, también para sentarse mientras se espera el cafe, o para recibir al publico que venga a ver una charla o exposicion brindada por algun ponente invitado. En el área pública, también se encuentra el corner de Three Marks Coffee, que hace mas amena y calida cada visita con su café especializado.

El altillo se puede cerrar con cortinas tanto por la parte superior como por la parte inferior, pudiendo asi no solo brindar distintos grados de privacidad sino también aportando un elemento para dividir las distintas zonas.
La zona privada está compuesta por el estudio, el taller, la zona de ocio, y la sala de reuniones que también es la cocina. Todos estos espacios estan conectados a una amplia terraza, que ademas de dar bonitas vistas a un gran macetero repleto de plantas. También permite que entre a este espacio una luz solar vespertina muy especial.
El espacio se pensó como un gran santuario arquitectónico donde la imprenta de la artesanía estuviera muy presente. Se escogió el color tierra para reforzar esta idea de materialidad y se transformar en micro cemento en el suelo y en los elementos de obra y las paredes con el mismo tono con una base de enyesado irregular.

Descripcion del espacio:

Al ingresar al espacio nos encontramos en la parte izquierda con una gran grada de obra, que atraviesa por completo el local hasta llegar al final. Un elemento arquitectónico que en toda su dimensión, no solo sirve para exponer objetos sino tambien para sentarse.
A la derecha, y debajo un arco estructural del edificio, se encuentra el espacio de Café con una barra de espejo con sobre de inox realizada para Three Marks Coffee.
En frente veremos el altillo donde se encuentra un pequeño taller, compuesto por una impresora 3D y una mesa que invita al trabajo manual. También hay una zona de almacenaje y exactamente por debajo se situa el rack y la zona de baños, con un sobre de madera y picas y grifos de Icónico, con un espejo circular.

Una vez cruzado el altillo nos encontraremos con una zona de relax y ocio, donde la grada ahora se ha convertido en un sofá con jardinera, y también es la base de una escalera de chapa doblada hecha a medida y con barandilla tubular.
El sofá fue diseñado a medida, y tapizado por la misma tela con la que fueron hechas las cortinas. La mesa baja es la Mineral “Coffee Table” de Ferm y el sillon es el Pacha lounge chair de Gubi.

Este espacio se estructura alrededor de la gran mesa principal, de obra acabada con micro cemento. Un elemento hecho en la misma obra, que tambien refuerza el proceso y concepto artesanal por sobre todo. Esta mesa puede albergar hasta seis artistas 3D, que con los ordenadores en zona de rack hace que no haya cables y ordenadores a la vista. Las sillas son las Aeron de Herman Miller.
En la pared hay una gran estantería de obra, que luce como fondo de la gran mesa de trabajo. Aqui hay libros, prototipos y objetos relacionados al trabajo y a la inspiracion y al mundo imaginario de Six N. Five.
Al fondo del local, en una cota diferente se encuentra una imponente cocina y sala de reuniones, que al estar divididas por dos extensas cortinas, por momentos da sensaciones de telón y escenario de teatro.

El cambio de nivel se soluciona con tres peldaños corridos que enfatizan el carácter arquitectónico del espacio. La cocina fue diseñada a medida se compone de un sobre de Dekton de Cosentino y unas puertas lacadas. La mesa fue diseñada a medida y producida por Carpintería J. Vidal con ocho sillas nº 30 de Ton.
El proyecto de iluminación se resuelve en carriles en techo y empotrables debajo altillo de la marca LedsC4. La lámpara tekio de santacole en la zona del sofa, un lineal de LED a medida ilumina la gran mesa de trabajo. La luminaria de la cocina esta compuesta por las lámparas Tempo de Vibia encima de la mesa de la cocina.
