Tillberg Design of Sweden has been appointed lead architect for master planning and interior concepts for Somnio, which features 39 onboard apartments with amenities.

The name Somnio derives from Latin, meaning “to dream”. It is overseen by Captain Erik Bredhe, who has extensive experience overseeing luxury at sea.

When it came down to assembling the team to make this yacht a reality, Erik Bredhe had to rely on the best designers of luxury yachts across the globe. Tillberg Design of Sweden is more than delighted to be trusted with designing the luxury yacht, in close collaboration with Winch Design.

TDoS brings decades of experience into the construction process of Somnio. From a blank piece of paper, TDoS has worked closely with the client team to develop optimal flows, and tailored layouts, all with the purpose to enhance both the experience and the operations throughout the yacht.

During the development process, a number of different apartments, sizes and layouts have been developed for Somnio. In order to create a true yacht ambience onboard, a wide array ofwarm and tactile materials have been used, including crafted wood, supple leather and uniquely designed textiles.

The way the yacht is planned and equipped, and the interior and exterior design, together with the standard of outfitting, will make it as close to living on a private yacht that you can get without buying one of your own.”

Captain Erik Bredhe said: “Somnio will be the only residential yacht liner in the world and has been designed to exacting standards that are commensurate with a life of opportunity. We’re delighted to be working together with Tillberg Design of Sweden.”

Described in the industry as the first “Yacht Liner,” Somnio will be built to cater for the highest future hygiene and safety requirements, and the owners will have access to world-class health care and medical services.

The 39 apartments are already being sold, and acquisition of these apartments is strictly by invitation or referral. The names of the Somnio owners will remain a tightly guarded secret. The yacht liner, will explore all corners of the globe from the Mediterranean, a week in New York, sailing the South Pacific to undertaking expeditions in Antarctica.

A 10,000-bottle wine cellar, state-of-the-art restaurants and bars, and an onboard beach club with water sports facilities are just a few of the many amenities Somnio will feature when completed in mid-2024.

Somnio has been hailed as the world’s first “Yacht Liner” and will be delivered by specialist Norwegian shipyard, VARD, in mid 2024. 

Establishing a new niche in superyacht ownership, Somnio has just 39 luxuriously spacious apartments onboard and will sail with an intimate community on an ever-changing global itinerary.

Somnio has selected two of the world’s foremost architectural and design studios for the project, Tillberg Design of Sweden and Winch Design from the United Kingdom.

Somnio was conceived to provide all the benefits of superyacht ownership with Owners sharing the experience of the seas less travelled. She will be finished to the highest possible standards with onboard amenities reflecting the service and offering only found in the world’s finest hotels.

The highest standards of security and medical care will also be available on board, enabling Owners and their guests to sail with the highest level of safety during the midst of pandemics and other global risks.

Environmental sustainability is a key focus for Somnio which is being built with the latest clean engine technology and advanced onboard equipment to help scientists and marine experts conduct research into ocean environments. Internationally-recognised experts will join Somnio’s itinerary to update Owners on the latest global challenges and solutions on key environmental and philanthropic issues.

Somnio will be 222 metres long and will have a gross tonnage of 33,500 GRT. The project has enjoyed the support of VARD’s parent company, Italy’s Fincantieri, one of the world’s most renowned builders of specialised vessels.

The project is being overseen by Somnio Lead, Captain Erik Bredhe, previously Master of The World, to date the only residential vessel at sea. The World has been a phenomenal success though Captain Bredhe who is now embarking on a new vision for ultraluxe living on the ocean.
