Kumpan Electric

The German world leader electric scooters company Kumpan has hired jean de lessard - designers créatifs to brand the new interior design of their North American showrooms. The first store is located in the Old Montreal and the Kumpan concept will be spread during the next few years.

We created a strong and distinctive identity for Kumpan’s very first showroom in North America. Our main design strategy exploits the universality and affordability of the nomadic concept. The focus for the Montreal showroom (600 sq. ft.) is on exploring flexibility and of course portability; thus, it can be transposed to any space whatsoever, and anywhere on the planet.

 The  actual showroom includes a few simple yet ingenious solutions, such as modular podiums. These podiums serve to greatly emphasize the products that are showcased.  Further, having had to respond to the Canadian National Building Code requirements for toilet accessibility for people with reduced mobility, while keeping with the key-spherical form in this small space and the mood of the specific era, we transformed this architectural constraint into an original factory-made rounded shell object. This panelling was adorned with a coating of polished brass and detailed with stained wood trimming. 

Following our research on style, we sought to create a tridimensional rendering in space of our client’s essence that successfully blends elegance with a distinctive fifties line with today's answer to electrical technology. Thus, our design combines for the very first showroom in North America, elements of urbanity and refinement. This was achieved by focusing on the contemporary and dynamic shapes and drive of Kumpan products, while playing with a strong 1950s decorative aspect.   The premises retain their warmth and aesthetic appeal, being true to the shapes and materials of this bygone era they strongly evoke. The vintage style, the geometric prints in a mythical colors duet of pink and black, as well as the elliptic and round shapes of the furniture both serve as a revvingly chic backdrop to gleaming scooters.
