The new Turin headquarters of GFT are inside the former Fiat Engineering completed in the early 1980s by Ludovico Quaroni and Studio Passatelli, now home to offices and innovative realities.
The post-modern architecture of the building is perceptible in all its expressive power even in the inside: the large orange pillars of the fronts are distinctive elements that mark the work environments, while the windows frame project the external facades into the offices.
In this project too, the relationship with the container constitutes the starting point of the project (of our work?), which transformed the spaces by working with immateriality.
The GFT offices occupy a particular space, very narrow and long, whose proportions are further emphasized by the fast pace of the orange pillars.
The first action of the project was to alter the perception of this space by working on the idea of the threshold and creating an intermediate space between the outside world and the GFT world.
After the entrance and a large window on a wooden frame, five cylinders, of different sizes and with different functions, create a sort of casba, with narrow passages and small areas where it is possible to move in fluid and circular paths, entering and exiting.
These new volumes, while not touching the walls of the office and therefore not effectively altering the original narrow and long space, however, totally transform the perception, creating a completely new landscape.
Architecturally, the cylindrical volumes are neutral elements, covered in wood on the inside but white on the outside, with textured material surfaces that create a sort of rib. Beyond this threshold, the office space then takes on a more classic shape, with the tables arranged serially and with great visual permeability.

La nuova sede torinese di GFT è all’interno dell’ex Fiat Engineering completato nei primi anni Ottanta da Ludovico Quaroni e dallo Studio Passatelli, oggi sede di uffici e realtà innovative.
L’architettura post moderna dell’edificio è percepibile in tutta la sua forza espressiva anche all’interno: i grandi pilastri arancioni dei fronti sono elementi distintivi che scandiscono gli ambienti di lavoro, mentre le vetrate inquadrano e proiettano dentro gli uffici le facciate esterne..
Anche in questo progetto la relazione con il contenitore costituisce il punto di partenza del progetto, che ha trasformato gli spazi lavorando con l’immaterialità.
Gli uffici GFT occupano uno spazio particolare, molto stretto e lungo, le cui proporzioni risultano ulteriormente enfatizzate dal ritmo incalzante dei pilastri arancioni.
La prima azione del progetto è stata quella di alterare la percezione di questo spazio lavorando sull’idea di soglia e generando uno spazio intermedio tra il mondo esterno e quello GFT.
Superato l’ingresso e un’ampia vetrata su telaio ligneo, cinque cilindri, di diverse dimensioni e con funzioni differenti, creano una sorta di casba, con stretti passaggi e piccole aree dove è possibile muoversi in percorsi fluidi e circolari, entrando e uscendo.
Questi nuovi volumi, pur non toccando le pareti dell’ufficio e quindi non alterando fattivamente la spazialità originale stretta e lunga, ne trasformano però totalmente la percezione, creando un paesaggio completamente nuovo.
Architettonicamente i volumi cilindrici sono elementi neutri, rivestiti in legno all’interno ma esternamente bianchi, con superfici materiche texturizzate che creano una sorta di nervatura.
Oltre questa soglia, lo spazio ufficio assume poi una conformazione più classica, con i tavoli disposti serialmente e con una grande permeabilità visiva.
