The aim of the intervention was to emphasize the connection with its surrounding lush green garden while keeping the main house characterised by a composition of volumes with different shapes, dimensions and heights. A strategy of punctual interventions was put in place; bigger openings have been made, all the main openings have been replaced by sliding doors and windows and both interior and exterior walls have been painted with the same colour and finish to give a sense of continuity between inside and outside. To achieve a better connection and a feeling of fluidity between the kitchen and living room some walls have been demolished; the kitchen and the living room are now connected and can be read as a unique space. While the entrance door wall has been replaced by a glass partition enlarging the entrance hall. The whole floor surface has been replaced; oak parquet was laid in the bedrooms, living room and kitchen, ceramic tiles were chosen for the bathrooms, while basalt slabs were laid in the entrance, and in all the outdoor spaces. The construction of a new pavemented terrace with a barbecue, a concrete sitting area under the existing “loggiato” and a washing area complement the intervention; a game of walls creates spaces to accommodate a shower and a washing basin. These spaces open up towards the garden while closing to the main house.
