The Poste Group and its real estate subsidiary Poste Immo, client which owns the site, have embarked on a vast program to modernize the building in 2012, adapting it to its times, opening it up to the neighborhood and welcoming residents, tourists and new users. In July 2012, Dominique Perrault’s team was chosen as the winner. The building permit was obtained in 2013 and work began in 2016, led by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France. In 2021, the various spaces will be made available to tenants for a full opening scheduled for 2022.

In the heart of the capital, la Poste du Louvre was a closed block inaccessible to the public, opened to the public through its single post office located on Rue du Louvre. The project consisted in reintroducing the building into the life of its neighborhood, opening it up to the public space by creating passages and galleries. From now on, the courtyard is accessible to all, the crossing block no longer forms an obstacle. The new mixed-use and functions also contribute to the new attractiveness of the site, which now hosts many programs including shops, offices, a 5-star hotel and social housing. It was also essential to preserve the heritage substance of the original building created by Julien Guadet in 1888: some decorative elements, such as the elegant clocks or the painted ceilings, but above all, the stone and metal architecture. The project has encouraged an approach of restitution and revelation of its heritage elements: the double heights have been restored, the large frames dressed in black, the building is transformed and freed from all the constraints accumulated over time.
