El Priorat is considered one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world, but still an authentic area where searching the “true sense” of the region.

This hermeticism has allowed it to maintain the appeal of a region that remains unaltered and true to centuries of tradition. In Priorat, the restless traveler will discover the allure of one of the best-kept secrets in Catalonia.

The Terra Dominicata hotel and winery, category 5 *, was born with the aspiration of providing the traveler with a charming place to explore Priorat. It is located next to Escaladei, the place where the Carthusian monastery founded in the 12th century is located and which gave rise to the region. The hotel is located in a farmhouse, Mas del Tancat, which was formerly inhabited by peasants who worked the land under the monastery's control.

Terra Dominicata is the Latin expression used to designate in the Middle Ages "the lands under the dominion of a lord". Being a building of great historical value, the reform has consisted in adapting its interior to accommodate 26 comfortable rooms without altering its exterior and thus preserving its aesthetic value and mystic appeal.

The hotel and its winery are surrounded by a 135-hectare estate, within the Montsant Natural Park, offering guests a place to relax and unwind while enjoying a unique natural environment.

Terra Dominicata, with its 5 * category, has 26 rooms distributed over two buildings. Its design is characterized by a warm color palette contrasted with brushstrokes of black in some details. The furniture, lighting and accessories seek to strike a balance between the attraction of a rural environment and the design of an exclusive hotel with the utmost respect for the history of the complex. Pieces of family artworks have been used to give it a very personalized touch and create comfortable space.

No two rooms are identical, each of them has its own unique personality, its elegant and contemporary style represented by unique details.

The interior design project led by Black Velvet Studio reflects perfectly how comfort and well-being blend harmoniously with the building and its natural surroundings creating a cozy and 100% environmentally friendly hotel.

María Vives is an architect and interior designer, founder of Black Velvet Studio. At the beginning of 2016 she embarked on a great project with her brothers: to refurbish a farmhouse located in a magical spot in the heart of Priorat. Used for centuries by the monks of the Cartoixa de Escaladei for the cultivation of their land, the farmhouse maintained its exterior charm whilst the project was focused on refurbishing the interior.

After more than two years of works, Black Velvet Studio, led by Maria and the interior designer Verónica Cruz, successfully completed the Terra Dominicata interior design project.
