Architects Pierre Brocas and Nada Oudghiri have collaborated to design the first flagship store of eyewa, a Dubai based eyewear brand. respectively based in Paris and Casablanca, Pierre designs spaces for fashion while Nada draws buildings and houses in Morocco. This collaboration allowed them to combine their knowledge, halfway between eye-catching spatial design and long-lasting architectural principles.

« It has been very stimulating to design a store during the pandemic. We were under lockdown but at the same time dreaming of experiencing spaces again. This period made us want to design a striking and immersive space to re-experience architecture » says Nada Oudghiri.

« Our wish was to move away from typical eyewear retail atmospheres. When you think of eyewear stores, you usually have something clinical in mind. All products are regimented under strong bleached lights. When eyewa approached us, we felt we had to design something bold » says Pierre Brocas.

The 100-square-meter store located in the mall of Dhahran (saoudi Arabia) is thought as a grey capsule : grey terrazzo and clay walls. each shelving unit is designed like a sculptural piece and attached to the walls, drawing from art gallery allures. The brand’s vivid colors have been injected into each of these units to generate an arresting aesthetic: a fresh and inviting atmosphere to appeal to a young demographic.

The wall curves deploy around the store like a thin sheet of paper.
These waves add softness to the surroundings of the space and create separate moments while keeping the floor plan open.

The central area welcomes blocks and cylinders that can be stacked and rearranged to ensure flexibility.
A ceiling installation made of 39 hanging panels generates an impactful overhead piece which triggers customers curiosity.
These panels hide all ceiling technicalities and integrate lighting in a smooth manner as no light source is visible from the entrance. They are painted in coral on one side and turquoise on the other to provide clients with an element of surprise upon circulating within the space.

Interactive screens allow customers to virtually try on sunglasses and color lenses while mirrors are designed in a playful manner inviting customers to engage.

The back of the store hosts an eye testing room in which visitors are immersed in a monochromatic environment.

«Designing a flagship store remotely during a pandemic was definitely a challenge for both of us. But thanks to modern technology and reliable local partners, we were able to birth a project that not only enhances customer experience throughout its spacial journey, but also helps lay the groundwork for a clear definition of the brand’s aesthetic and architectural codes.»
