Antirios House | The team of Papalexatos Architects
Antirrio / Greece / 2020
The orientation and location of the house in combination with the ergonomic floor plan and the configurations of the surrounding area compose a simple, yet functional residence, serving the users’ needs. The horizontal and vertical architectural elements define geometries and complete the composition, contributing to an even and unified whole. The full exploitation of the square metres on the ground floor, prevents the creation of unused spaces, contributing this way to sustainable development. Shades of white dominate. This emphasizes the white volumes which, together with the shadows, create a plasticity throughout the whole building volume. The dark frames contrast with the white color, partially demarcating the house. The openings are in line with the general philosophy and design thinking, following visual and functional principles for better lighting and ventilation of the building unit. The configuration of the surrounding space is harmonized with the "base", designing the section by adding and subtracting the ‘complete’ and the ‘empty’. The crest of the building communicates with the surrounding area and invites the user to reach the top via the circular staircase. It is through this as well as the ascent, that the user can discover the relationship between the building and the place.
