Self care is something that is a key focus within our society. More and more, people are looking for moments of calm and serenity amidst their hectic and fast paced life styles. Taking time to take care of you is more important and more accepted than before. KLD took on the Fitzgerald Private Clinic project in Dublin city centre, seeking to capture and reflect the brand ethos by creating an environment that captures this essence of calm and quiet, of refined luxury and indulgence in a
subtle and comforting way, whilst showcasing excellence and high end service and product.
Fitzgerald Private Clinic focuses on excellence and medical expertise and standard in a saturated market when often quality can be overlooked and undervalued, where speed and low prices can draw people in.

Fitzgerald Private Clinic pride themselves on their individual medical backgrounds, with all three Fitzgerald sisters being qualified and experienced doctors. They wanted to create a new experience for their customers and patients and open a dedicated high end aesthetic, skin clinic in the heart of the city. Everything about their brand and ethos is about expertise, quality service and medical grade care; they wanted this high standard of quality to shine through with the finished environment and to instil trust in their customers from the instant they stepped foot inside. The service offer is premium and luxury and the spaces that encapsulate it were designed to echo that at every touch point. We wanted to design a space that was tactile and all encompassing, with a sense of other worldliness; incorporating in associations of cleanliness and sterility with a balance of warmth.

Taking influence from the service offering and natural elements, the new design defines the functions of retail and beauty clinic in an inviting and experiential way with both the spatial layout leading you through the journey of the building as well as the transitions of materials. The spaces sit harmoniously side by side and cocoon the visitor in a warm, tactile and calming environment. The tone of the spaces is soft and cocooning, relaxed, inviting and light. The palette will take reference from the elements in nature, water, air and precious materials with subtle references to the delicacy and fragility of beauty and skin in an authentic way, drawing on tactility layering fabrics, glass and stone.

Good design is about balance and harmony. We sought to achieve this by contrasting the hard, raw elements with a femininity and softness to cocoon and comfort. We sought to create an inviting atmosphere and environment that draws the visitor in and encourages them to spend a while.
For me, small, confined spaces can often be the most exciting with the most potential. There is pleasure facing the challenge of spatial restrictions and fulfilling multiple functionalities as well as resulting in a harmonious atmosphere. It makes the project begin like a jigsaw that needs to be figured out. The size of this space was very small so every detail became even more important to get right as every detail is on show whilst serving its function.
