Project Name: Bozhou Gymnasium

Location: Bozhou, Anhui

Scale: 46000 square meters

Client: Bozhou Sports Bureau

Design time: 2014-2015

Construction time: 2016-2018

Design team: Yuan Ye, Qin Xu

Cooperation agency: CCED

The project is located in the southern New District of Bozhou, with a total construction area of about 45000 square meters. The project is a medium-sized Museum, with 4371 seating seats and 1652 temporary seats. The gymnasium will be able to undertake large-scale competitions, meet the requirements of handball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, wushu, judo, wrestling, Taekwondo and other sports competitions, training and national fitness activities.

The scheme abstracts the inverted trapezoidal form from the Han Dynasty architecture and utensils as the basic geometric form of the building, and uses the square pool along the shape as the "base" to foil the building form, so as to emphasize the purity of the building form and form a sense of ceremony. Inspired by the local armor of the warriors of the Han Dynasty, the architectural skin simulates the folding of the armor surface with a continuous triangular folding surface, and expresses the metal texture of the armor with perforated aluminum plates. The continuous folded surface of the epidermis also opens like a curtain, which naturally opens in the middle and forms the entrance of the building.

The design abandons the traditional gymnasium outdoor steps, but uses the building skin to cover the internal functional entity, in the main entrance to form a magnificent shared space, not only can be a good diversion of streamlines, but also the event information transmission, the audience rest and dining space. On both sides of the main staircase of the hall, two exhibition spaces are arranged to display Bozhou traditional and contemporary sports culture, enriching the practical functions of the hall.

The gymnasium and the training hall are organically integrated and can be flexibly separated so that they do not affect each other when they need to be independent. A large number of temporary stands have been set up in the competition venue. If the temporary stands are put away during non-competition, they can be used as large-scale mass fitness venues, and can also meet the needs of various large-scale performances, conferences, exhibitions and other social and commercial activities. The part of the gymnasium is based on the national fitness function, which can meet various forms of mass fitness and leisure needs, ensure the sustainable operation of the gymnasium, so as to achieve a win-win social and economic benefits.

The scheme emphasizes the concept of environmental protection and energy conservation for sustainable development. Through appropriate ecological technologies, it reflects a brilliant green ecological strategy: rainwater recovery and recycling, natural ventilation and lighting systems, energy-saving and efficient air conditioning systems, solar photovoltaic and hot water systems, and cooling through water tanks to improve the microclimate. And other passive ecological strategies. A continuous lighting window is set up on the roof of the competition hall, so that the lamp can not be switched on during normal daytime use. The shared hall is equipped with continuous glass roof lighting and grilles under the glass roof for shading. The east side of the training hall and the National Gymnasium can be a large area of natural lighting side, swimming pool through the design of sunken courtyard to achieve natural lighting and ventilation. The roof solar water heater can meet the requirements of the regular events and the warm water shower for the people's fitness. A small amount of solar photoelectric devices can solve the daily landscape lighting.

The exterior skin of the building is open perforated aluminum plate, which can shade the sun on the one hand, on the other hand, it can send cool air from the outdoor pool to the public hall slowly through the holes. In the hottest season, it can still ensure comfort without air conditioning system, thus saving energy.

Landscape design focuses on the setting of landscape water around the building form, aiming to create a building form landing on the ground "base", so that the building is not simply landing directly on the ground, the building can also be in different light conditions on the water surface to form a changeable and beautiful reflection. Landscape pond plays an important role in regulating microclimate ecologically, and it is also a reservoir for rainwater recovery.
