The new footway and bicycle bridge, Lent – Tabor
The main concept of footway and bicycle bridge was not to be the shortest river crossing, but to exist as a place of detaining.
In that sense, „city bridge side“ is open to the town of Maribor. That opening is embodied as a small stands for sitting and resting by which the user can be brought down near the Drava river, everyone can feel the touch of the water. Again, the other attraction on the bridge is a big crack in the middle, so the users can stand or sit around and watch the river flux pattern and listen the river roar which is amplify by whole.
A friendly relation with the old bridge is present in the bridge design too. A straight line on the “old bridge” side isn’t the monumentally sense respected.
Also, two supporting posts are on the same rhythm as a supporting posts on the old bridge, just to keep the rhythm of river flow. The main subject of our idea is the bridge outline, for magnificent experience from the boats, and the crack in the middle we already mention, take reversal function – framing the town silhouette.
Materialisation of the bridge is different for different activities. The footway part is made of wood, giving the sense of warmth, making the sitting and standing comfort more comfortable. Bicycle path is made of recycled rubber, for better wheel flattening. Bridge material which face the river surface is design as liquid metal form producing vivid reflection of the water matured with sun rays giving the unusual experience for boat traveler and pedestrian.
