Two-level apartment in a townhouse is located in the suburbs of St. Petersburg Saint-Petersburg / Russian Federation / 2020
The interior was designed for the atist Yulia Adamova, the founder of the poster shop VIZHU KITA.
The apartment has two functional levels. On the first floor there is a kitchen/living room and a small laundry room/guest bathroom. On the second floor there is a bedroom, a study and a bathroom with a window.
A relatively small budget was allocated for the project, therefore in order to get an unconventional result we have decided to implement DIY technique. Starting with the wall stucco to the furniture and décor – all was made at the site with our own hands. Moreover, our client Yulia was ready help and has actively participated in the process.
Almost all the furniture and some elements in the apartment were made on site from pine furniture panels and boards according to our sketches. Sawing of the boards to the required dimensions was done according to the drawings at the production site. Before assembly the sawn boards were slightly adjusted to the required size, if necessary, sanded, covered with furniture oil or paint. In total more than a dozen pieces of furniture were made from the furniture boards: a staircase, a wardrobe, a bed, a dining table and two desks, a countertop for the kitchen and laundry, a vanity unit, decorative window frames.
The kitchen wall on the first floor is finished with the coniferous boards of different widths. The boards were aged with the help of tools at hand: an ax, a hammer, a screwdriver and nails. The boards were scarified, beaten and brushed, and at the end Yulia painted them by hand with several shades of hard wax oil to give the wall a more complex color. The wall in the bathroom on the second floor and the headboard in the bedroom were built implementing the same principle.
The apartment also has some redesigned metal objects. The wardrobe consists of two lockers, which are usually used to store spare clothes, hats and personal belongings in schools, changing rooms and industrial buildings. The cabinet in the office consists of four cash cabinets. The factory paint was removed from the metal elements with the help of chemicals, covered with a special compound for cold bluing of steel and fixed with transparent wax. There is also a converted Ikea table lamp by the bed in the bedroom. A standard lamp was aged with a gas burner and a hammer.
Some of the furniture and decor were bought at auctions and flea markets. The armchair in the living room was repainted and reupholstered by the owner of the apartment. An inexpensive fabric with a retro pattern was chosen as the material for the project. Elm stools that are used as a nightstand and a coffee table - items with a long history. They came from China where they were used by workers in a factory hundred years ago. A carved mirror in the hall on the second floor was bought in a garage sale. A work chair, a table lamp, a lamp above the desk in the bedroom are all vintage items.
All paintings in the interior were painted by Yulia Adamova. These are mainly paintings on canvas from the series called "surfaces".
