The whole composition of the project comes from the measurement principles of the past, in particular from the unit of measurement, which the Romans developed within their projects: the actus quadratus.

Starting with this unit of measurement, we chose to divide the project into two modules, interconnected with each other: one for the exterior and the other for the interior.

The external module consists of a roof, capable of accommodating the new functions annexed to the exhibition hall, and which generates access to it.

The internal module instead, in continuity with the roof, is refined and translated into a linear element that accompanies the visitor in the discovery of the internal space.

The project of the exhibition area is made up of two spaces: one contains the other.

The “contained” space has the function of hosting the temporary exhibition area in the lower part of the cistern.

The “container”, on the other hand, is the main element of the entire experience: based on the idea that the water represents the true permanent exhibition, the project aims to bring the Piscina Mirabilis back to its former glory: when it was full.

A body of water is placed at the level of the maximum capacity of the cistern, where a thin veil of water falls from its edges, which becomes the filter between the exhibition space below and the circulation area.

A slow discovery of a majestic space, which takes place through a simple system of panoramic walkways is accessible to all.

A unique path to accompany the visitor gradually from top to bottom (and vice versa), always remaining in harmony with the existing space.
