Located on the northern side of the island, in a less developed part of the grand cayman called rum point drive, this luxury one-off house strikes an impressive pose on the dramatic caribbean coastline. Nicolas Tye architects were appointed to design and construct a new build on the 0.69 acre sandy long-stretched site between the public road and the beach. On the site now stands a contemporary, luxury one-off family home built to create a landmark for rum point, enhancing both the local area and island in general.
Size: 4706 sq ft
Budget: $4 Million
Special Criteria: Must be Hurricane Proof

Rum point house was to be ultra-contemporary therefore it was important that the building would sit harmoniously within the surrounding area and in the site adjacent to the sea; the house was designed to give an impression of floating, like a boat at sea. The design also needed to comply to the current regulations and be hurricane, storm surge proof and efficient through the longevity of lifetime materials to a high specification making this a robust and well thought through build.

The entrance elevation is solid, closed from views from the public road and with an open entrance area. Side walls are angled at 11.5 degrees to create overhangs for design aesthetic and solar shading purposes. The extravagant house has a roof terrace as party deck with a covered bar and lounge area allowing for panoramic views around the island and sea, as well as a vanishing edge pool located to the back of the building next to the beach.

The southeast facing elevation is mainly solid to provide protection from the sun, but the north-eastern elevation is open to the beach allowing for unspoiled views towards the sea.
