Prince Mihailo’s Plaza | Ranko Tomić

Focused on a simple, yet important goal: to populate plaza and park with new functions which will make it more attractive and bring citizens there, while at the same time keeping existing monuments, traffic and pedestrian routes intact, caring of long time citizens’ habits.

That kind of “win-win” approach was necessary to allow solutions for existing problems, but also to avoid producing the new ones, as often happens with projects which completely neglect heritage and population habits. Square is large, but almost empty at the moment, making citizens use it only as a traffic space. The project propose construction of few independent places in the square and park space, with functions of places that change during the day, producing space adaptable to habitants needs. Proposed objects are: municipality museum, multifunctional open scene (theater), chamber hall with cafe, public “breakfast space”, pedestrian zone and underground parking.

Competition failed due to fact that only two entries were sent.
