In this monolythic house, traditional courtyard is inverted - instead of carving openings through a roof slab, the first floor slab is cut to form a double-height floating courtyard. This semi-indoor, tranquil volume is enveloped in mashrabiya screens inspired by the unique multidirectional patterns found in Jeddah, with an everchanging interplay of light and shadow dancing on the walls.
