ENG - After a year from the opening of the Pink Closet boutique, the designer creates a new project for the interiors of one of the most impressive hotels on the Amalfi Coast.
The reopening of Palazzo Avino is imminent. The dramatic hotel in Ravello is perched on the hills overlooking the Amalfi coastline. A dream hotel inside a building from the 12th century, which reopens this year by presenting the new Capsule Collection by Cristina Celestino, an interior design project that involves some of the facility’s most important rooms and suites – including the Belvedere suite, with a terrace facing the sea and a private swimming pool.

“The idea came by thinking about the essence of Palazzo Avino and its bond with Ravello and the Amalfi Coast” – Cristina Celestino says. – Perched on the steep cobblestone alleys, the hotel is like a pink mirage amidst terraces of olive and citrus trees. Hard to reach, it is a destination that proves to be even more extraordinary than expected, thanks to the breathtaking view of the sea and the horizon, glimpsed through the lancet windows in the facades of the Palazzo. The concept takes its cue from the wonders of the Italian gardens of Ravello, and the odyssey of forgotten legends of the Tyrrhenian Sea.”

The tools of the architect are custom furnishings and the use of color, texture and surfaces, on the boundary between earth and sea, classicism and orientalism, indoors and outdoors. The key element – since this is a hotel – is the bed: placed against a slightly concave wall that encloses it like a shell, it has a textile headboard that forms soft curves, with a cantilevered arrangement. The bed is lit by custom lamps resembling precious pearls on brass seashells.
The furnishings are in wood, applied in all its guises – from canaletto walnut to colored briar. They are custom made, in a natural dialogue with the hotel’s fine antiques. The tops are in handmade ceramic glazed with a craquelé effect in tones of ivory; other furnishings have been treated with a special paint for a mother-ofpearl effect, creating iridescent surfaces.

The sumptuous luxury is never ostentatious, always at the service of the welcoming spaces. The rainbow onyx used for the facings in the bathrooms of the suites leaves room for the geometric lines of white, pink and variegated terracotta of Giardino all’Italiana – a natural, tactile material, Mediterranean par excellence.
The fabrics have been carefully selected: the patterns and graphics of the curtains coexist with the solid colors of natural, precious fibers. The carpets – custom designed and knotted by hand – feature monochrome geometries and oversized floral motifs.

The palette of colors starts from absolute white, the dominant tone of the interiors of Palazzo Avino, and then shifts into three moods: aquamarine, coral and sand.
Amidst soft alcoves, marine colors and precious details, the rooms are thus transformed into cabinets of curiosities to enjoy with the eyes and discover with the hands, thanks to the tactile properties of the various materials.
The Capsule Collection comes after the design of The Pink Closet, the boutique in powder tones inspired by the symbolic color of Palazzo Avino. Amidst inlaid marble, ceramic seashells and refined decorative touches, the project created by Cristina Celestino establishes an original dialogue between the interiors and the surrounding landscape, generating a “Wunderkammer” that has already garnered avid attention.

Un albergo da sogno, ospitato in un palazzo del XII secolo, che quest’anno riaprirà presentando la nuova Capsule Collection firmata da Cristina Celestino, un progetto d’interni che ha coinvolto alcune tra le camere e suites più importanti dell’hotel– tra cui la suite Belvedere, con terrazzo affacciato sul mare e piscina privata.

«L’idea è nata ragionando sull’essenza di Palazzo Avino e sul suo legame con Ravello e la Costiera Amalfitana» – racconta Cristina Celestino. «Arroccato tra impervi vicoli di ciottoli, l’hotel è un miraggio rosa fra terrazzamenti di ulivi e agrumeti. Difficile da raggiungere, è una meta che si rivela ancora più straordinaria di quanto ci si aspettasse, per la vista mozzafiato sul mare e gli scorci di orizzonte che s’intravedono dalle aperture a sesto acuto dei prospetti del Palazzo. Il concept s’ispira alle meraviglie dei giardini all’italiana di Ravello e all’odissea di racconti dimenticati del Tirreno».
Gli strumenti dell’architetto sono gli arredi su misura e poi l’uso del colore, delle texture e delle superfici, al confine tra terra e mare, classicità e orientalismo, interno ed esterno. Elemento chiave, trattandosi di un hotel, è il letto: addossato alla parete leggermente concava che lo racchiude come in un guscio, ha una testiera tessile che disegna morbide curve lavorate a sbalzo. Lo illuminano lampade che simulano perle preziose posate su conchiglie d’ottone, realizzate su disegno.

Gli arredi sono in legno, presente in tutte le sue espressioni – dal noce canaletto alle radiche colorate. Progettati ad hoc, dialogano naturalmente con i pezzi d’antiquariato del Palazzo. Il piano dei mobili è in ceramica artigianale lucida con effetto craquelé nei toni dell’avorio; altri arredi sono trattati con una vernice speciale effetto madreperla, che rende le superfici cangianti.
Sontuosità e lusso non sono mai esibiti, ma sempre al servizio di spazi accoglienti. L’onice arcobaleno usato nel rivestimento delle stanze da bagno delle suites lascia spazio alle geometrie del cotto bianco, rosato e variegato del Giardino all’Italiana – una materia naturale, tattile e mediterranea per eccellenza.
I tessuti sono frutto di un’accurata selezione: le trame e le geometrie dei tendaggi vivono insieme alle tinte unite di filati naturali e preziosi. I tappeti, realizzati su disegno e annodati a mano, si articolano in geometrie monocromatiche e fantasie floreali oversize.

La palette dei colori parte dal bianco assoluto, il colore che maggiormente caratterizza gli interni di Palazzo Avino, e si declina nei tre mood cromatici acquamarina, corallo e sabbia.
Tra alcove morbide, colori che richiamano il mare e dettagli preziosi, le camere si trasformano così in wunderkammer da godere con gli occhi e scoprire con le mani, grazie alla resa tattile dei diversi materiali.
La Capsule Collection segue il progetto The Pink Closet, la boutique nei toni del cipria ispirata al colore simbolo di Palazzo Avino. Tra marmi intarsiati, conchiglie in ceramica e ricercati tocchi decorati, il progetto curato da Cristina Celestino è riuscito a instaurare un dialogo originale tra interni e paesaggio circostante, creando una “stanza delle meraviglie” che ha fatto già molto parlare di sé.
