The apartment is located inside a historic building of the center of Rome which, with its arched windows, English-style fixtures and balconies with balustrades with columns, preserves the original decorative apparatus .

The project aims to maintain the memory of the house, whose wide spatiality is marked by open passageways that rhythm the sequence of the rooms that compose it and by design choices aimed at preserving the original decorative system with accurated restoration interventions.

The division of the rooms has allowed, without upsetting the system, to maintain a clear separation between the private and the representative area, thus saving the typical structure of the houses of the time.

From the large living area, illuminated by the glass-concrete ceiling above the fireplace, there are two corridors that lead to the private rooms and cross the house. These connecting spaces are enriched with precious wardrobes, restored and integrated to adapt to new needs of the property which, with simple shapes and evocative moldings, enhance the perception of space by playing with the heights of the ceilings.

The laundry and the kitchen remain two private rooms but accessible thanks to a full-height paneling system which, sliding horizontally, is recomposed into a single continuous surface, almost disappearing as needed.

The bedrooms, as the rest of the house, are comfortable and bright, essential in furnishings and with decorated ceilings, large windows and private balconies, with exclusive views on the neighborhood.

Only natural materials were used in the work: alongside the oak wood used for the floors, coverings, accessories and fixed furnishings are made of stone, and placed in strong dialogue in order to have a material stamp in contrast with the white surfaces of walls and ceilings. This alternation of materials characterizes the kitchen and the representative rooms such as the entrance, where the large twin niches are covered in Guatemala green marble, and the bathrooms, with coverings respectively in white Carrara marble and open pore Roman Travertine, with handcrafted handles made by the wastes of marble working.

L’appartamento è situato all’interno di un palazzo storico, risalente ai primi del novecento, nel Centro di Roma che, con le sue finestre ad arco, gli infissi all’inglese ed i balconcini con le balaustre a colonnine, conserva integro l’apparato decorativo dell’epoca.

Il progetto mantiene la memoria storica della casa, la cui ampia spazialità viene scandita da varchi a giorno che ritmano la sequenza dei grandi ambienti che la compongono e da scelte progettuali volte a conservare l’impianto decorativo originario, con mirati e puntuali interventi di restauro.

La divisione degli ambienti ha permesso, senza stravolgere l’impianto, di mantenere una netta separazione tra la zona privata e quella di rappresentanza, conservando così la struttura tipica delle case dell’epoca.

Dall’ampia zona giorno, illuminata anche dalla copertura in vetrocemento soprastante il camino, sono due i corridoi che, conducendo alle stanze private, attraversano la casa. Questi spazi di connessione si arricchiscono di preziose armadiature, restaurate ed integrate per adattarsi alle nuove necessità della proprietà che, con forme semplici e modanature evocative, valorizzano la percezione dello spazio giocando con le altezze dei soffitti.

La lavanderia e la cucina restano due ambiti riservati ma accessibili grazie ad un sistema di pannellature a tutta altezza che, scorrendo in orizzontale, si ricompongono in un’unica superfice continua, quasi scomparendo secondo necessità.

Le camere da letto, in linea con il resto della casa, si presentano ampie e luminose, essenziali negli arredi e con i soffitti decorati, grandi finestrature e balconi privati, con affacci riservati sul quartiere.

Nel progetto sono stati impiegati solo materiali naturali, affiancando al legno di rovere usato per i pavimenti, rivestimenti, accessori e arredi fissi realizzati in pietra, che sono stati posti in forte dialogo tra loro al fine di dare un’impronta materica a contrasto con le superfici bianche delle pareti e dei soffitti. Questa alternanza di materiali caratterizza sia la cucina e gli ambienti di rappresentanza come l’ingresso, in cui le grandi nicchie gemelle sono rivestite in Verde Guatemala, che le stanze da bagno, con rivestimenti rispettivamente in marmo bianco di Carrara e in Travertino Romano lasciato a poro aperto, con le maniglie realizzate artigianalmente recuperando in corso d’opera gli scarti delle lavorazioni del marmo.
