"The clients are a professional couple with one child (pre-school). We were recommended to them by a previous client who is an old friend of theirs. They gave us a great brief and had already made several changes to the property. They had some beautiful vintage pieces (lighting and cabinetry) given to them by family and there were already some strong pieces of art that the couple had bought together. This helped to give us a strong idea of their style. They were struggling to bring it together as a whole.  In particular, they wanted to focus their attention on the living area and snug that had become a through space and didn't get enough use. Uniting these spaces with the hallway to bring coherence and definition to the ground floor.  They also wanted to update their bathroom and bedroom and the guest bed and shower room to create a more coherent first floor to the home.

The coffee table was a bespoke order from our friend Dirk Vander Kooij. We first met Dirk around 5 years ago in Paris where he was showing his first Melting Pot table and it was love at first sight. So we have always wanted to use this piece in a project. This was the perfect opportunity and the process of making this piece allows flexibility in colour so we opted for a palette that would bring out the beautiful detail of the original period fireplace. Dirk was at the forefront of the new recycled waste plastic movement and this piece is one of our favourites. It elevates the material into something highly desirable.

We designed a bespoke vanity unit for the ensuite bathroom in laquered coral with a ribbed detail and had it made to create a strong colour statement in this period setting. We also included a custom coloured mirror, shower screen and hardware in our design to give the bathroom a playful sophistication. The bathroom entrance is through a wall of period wardrobes in the main bedroom. There is an element of wonder to walking through a hidden doorway in a wardrobe into such a generous and bold bathroom space. The bed and ottoman in the bedroom is our Luca design for Love Your Home in a bespoke fabric.

The plasterwork on the ceiling in the living spaces was original and we worked with that to help ground the modern elements of the design. The ceiling light we specified is a minimal contemporary take on the chandelier, fitting for the grandeur of the ceiling rose but unexpected in style. It provides contrast.

The couple's art collection gave us inspiration for the bolder elements of the colour palette and the original fireplace with its mix or warm pinks and veined black stone gave us the base notes. "
