Rural house restoration In Miraflores | fuertepenedo arquitectos

The house is located in Miraflores, Muros, a small rural core of traditional character, formed by a set of stone houses and a large number of granaries that once housed, dried and treated the corn plantations. The house is located on a steep plot, originally was composed of two attached volumes, which respond to the traditional scheme of Galician housing where the main spaces were the stables and the kitchen: with the oven and the stone cooler, but with the passage of time a third volume is added and a series of modifications are made that distort its original character. The three volumes adapt to the slope, are protected from the winds and almost closed to the imposing views of the Muros estuary, giving rise to a compartmentalized interior, composed by small and dark spaces. 

The proposal is based on the understanding of the place: the scale of the rural nucleus, the pre-existing housing, the materiality of the stone, the 180º views of the estuary or the sunlight are the parameters that have been taken into account when considering the acting. The project idea seeks to highlight its identity: dignifying the preexisting and creating a fluid interior space bathed in light and directed to the views. 

The decisions that pursue the realization of the idea go through to maintain the original stone volumes in their form, replace the third added volume, due to its scarce interest, for a new volume of concrete, in order to complete the built set. The stone facades keep their original spaces, while in the new volume there are large windows that open onto the views of the estuary, with oriented positions that reflect its interior use and the dialogue with the preexistences. The intervention is committed to a sincere use of materials, limiting the maintenance of the stone, the introduction of exposed concrete and Zinc, which unifies the roofs. Another decision goes through the creation of three skylights of different dimensions that bathe the dining room space, the shower space and the old space of the stables, getting the light to bathe the interior stone walls. 

The interior is considered as a fluid space in which, as a journey, it travels through the different floors and rooms of the house, enjoying the unique character of each of its spaces. Playing with the scale, the visual connections and the light, it is possible to create a continuous spatial system that structures the spatial experience of the house. The wood, Galician pine, as the only material that unifies the entire interior provides the warmth and reinforces the idea of ​​the new house: the home.

La vivienda está ubicada en el lugar de Miraflores, Muros, un pequeño núcleo rural de carácter tradicional, formado por un conjunto de viviendas de piedra y un elevado número de hórreos que en su día albergaban, secaban y curaban las plantaciones de maíz. La vivienda se sitúa en una parcela de fuerte pendiente, originalmente se componía de dos volúmenes adosados, que responden al esquema tradicional de vivienda gallega en donde los espacios principales eran las cuadras y la cocina: con el horno y la fresquera en piedra, pero con el paso del tiempo se añade un tercer volumen y se realizan una serie de modificaciones que desvirtúan su carácter. Los tres volúmenes se adaptan a la pendiente, se protegen de los vientos y casi se cierran a las imponentes vistas de la ría de Muros, dando lugar a un interior compartimentado, de espacios reducidos y oscuros. 

La propuesta parte del entendimiento del lugar: la escala del núcleo rural, las preexistencias de la vivienda, la materialidad de la piedra, las vistas a 180º de la ría o el soleamiento son los parámetros que se han tenido en cuenta a la hora de plantear la actuación. La idea de proyecto busca resaltar su identidad: dignificando lo preexistente y creando un espacio interior fluido bañado por la luz y dirigido a las vistas. 

Las decisiones que persiguen la realización de la idea pasan por mantener los volúmenes de piedra originales en su forma, sustituir el tercer volumen añadido, debido a su escaso interés, por un nuevo volumen de hormigón, con el fin de completar el conjunto edificado. Las fachadas en piedra mantienen sus huecos originales, mientras que en el nuevo volumen surgen los grandes ventanales que se abren a las vistas de la ría, con posiciones orientadas que reflejan el uso en su interior y dialogan con lo existente. La intervención apuesta por un uso sincero de los materiales, limitando a mantener la piedra, la introducción del hormigón visto y el Zinc, que unifica las cubiertas. Otra de las decisiones pasa por la creación de tres lucernarios de distintas dimensiones que bañan el espacio del comedor, el espacio de ducha y el antiguo espacio de las cuadras, consiguiendo que la luz bañe los muros de piedra interiores. 

El interior se plantea como un espacio fluido en el que a modo de recorrido se transita por las distintas alturas y estancias de la vivienda disfrutando del carácter singular de cada uno de sus espacios. Jugando con la escala, las conexiones visuales y la luz se consigue crear un sistema espacial continuo que vertebra la experiencia espacial de la vivienda. La madera, pino gallego, como único material que unifica todo el interior proporciona la calidez y refuerza la idea de la nueva vivienda: el hogar.
