The Hotel Granbaita is a third-generation family-run hotel located in the centre of Selva in the Val Gardena, surrounded by the impressive peaks of the South Tyrolean Dolomites. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been a popular holiday destination for international holidaymakers for decades, both in summer and in winter.

Since its construction in the 1960s, the house has undergone countless structural extensions, modernizations and restructurings, but in 2019, as part of a core renovation, it was time to give the main building – including reception, bar and dining room, as well as the wellness area – a uniform design and an architecturally contemporary appearance.

The existing balconies and wooden cladding, the roof and a glass conservatory were demolished and replaced. In terms of urban planning, the connection between the main building and the downhill extension is created by an elegantly curved, single-storey structure, which houses the reception area, bar, lounge, dining room and the new gourmet area. With its storey-high glazing and the characteristic wooden cladding of the attic, the extension becomes the new architectural hallmark of the entire Hotel Granbaita. Its upgrading to a 5-star hotel reflects not only the simple, elegant façade made of dark larch wood, but also the high-quality materials that were used for the architecturally timeless interior design, such as smoked oak wood, grey natural stones and local fabrics that establish colour accents. The harmonious design concept creates an atmosphere that is continued not only in the technically state-of-the-art refurbished wellness area, but also in the 35 luxurious rooms and suites, which were also redesigned as part of the restructuring.
