RAJ complex

HISTORY:

The historical village of Kang- Torqabeh and Shandiz county- 30 km northwest of Mashahhd- Razavi Khorasan province- Iran

The village that goes back to pre-Islamic era is privileged with moderate climate, high mountains and abundant trees. Located on the hillside of Binalood mountains with interconnected buildings.

Courtyards and roofs both serve as pedestrian areas similar to streets.

The building in located in Sar-e-kamar neighborhood and has a clay coating like most of the other buildings in the village.

The building goes back to Pahlavi era and it used to be the main school of the village. later it was converted to have residential function.

DESIGN:

In our design we managed to restore the building in order to create an environment for vitalizing the traditional arts of the area such as rug weaving and other handcrafts.

One of our main purposes in the project is to provide a place where local residents can work in good condition, create art and be trained by the local elderly properly.

The other aim of the complex is to re find the amity among locals and tourists in a friendly atmosphere where tourists can try new tastes of local herbal teas and traditional foods in the café, buy and see spectacular pieces of art at the gallery and observe and learn about the ways of creating them in the workshops.
