“Every morning we continue to be amazed by the design of this loft suite Alex. It really is a special place & we are so happy with it! Thank you – you have done a superb job & made it possible for us to live (in style) in our much loved house as a family of 4!”

Hannah and Benjy

Our client’s objective was to add a new master suite to their two-bedroom Victorian house. The property is sited at the junction between two terraces with a triangular geometry which is duly expressed through the building footprint and roof-scape.

The house has a narrow footprint which means the original loft space was limited in height and volume. To convert the loft, we raised the ridge and lowered the floor, gaining enough headroom to form a new open plan master suite with bedroom, dressing area and ensuite shower room. To the rear, a new dormer is clad in black anthra-zinc and fully glazed to provide panoramic views and maximise natural light within. White-painted tongue and groove boarding with oak tops and shelving give a light and contemporary feel to the interior.

Although a freehold property, and proposed dormer volume within allowable limits, permitted development rights were not appropriate for this loft conversion due to the low ridge height. Through a sensitive approach to the design, we were able to achieve full planning permission to raise the ridge of the roof and create a dormer roof extension to the rear.
