Here's a small apartment of 30 m2 which was renovated and transformed into a "pied-a-terre" for its owners who requested for a place of short stay, for the times they visit their close friends, in Greece, from the distant California where their permanent residence is / home is.

The case study had to reply to specific requirements:

The flat should have a properly designed bathroom, a small, but fully equipped kitchen and plenty of storage spaces while the design of the hole house had to enable the gatherings for food and chatting.

We intended to respond to the above, while trying to decrease the annoyance resulting from many different items, textures and materials placed one close to the other, in a narrow space. That annoyance usually affects the percpetion of the space and makes it looks smaller and more stuffed than it is.

The design tools we opted for were:

The minimisation of the variety of the materials and the appliance of the materials to wide surfaces.

The design of the furnitures and the structures (wardrobes, cabinets, bookcases, kitchen equipment) in order to be perceived as parts of a whole and to be characterised by a strong common design logic and similar materials.

The study of lighting in order to illuminate the boundaries of the space, broadening visually the space.
