Lantern House, developed by Related Companies, features two towers – one 10 storeys, the other 21 storeys – connected by a glass lobby under the High Line. The façade is a contemporary take on historical styles seen in in the neighbourhood, with textured grids of bay windows and hand-laid antiqued grey brickwork with industrial metal detailing.

Thomas Heatherwick, Founder of Heatherwick Studio, said:

“Lantern House is the studio’s first residential project in New York, so we’re excited for people to now see it turning into reality.

The design came from looking at the city’s existing buildings and thinking about which ones you might want to live in, not just look at. It seemed to us that practical, crafted, human-scale details such as shades, mullions, and window sills might have a role to play again in making homes feel comfortable and inviting.

Our design for Lantern House, with its distinctive new bay windows, emerged from this thinking and from wondering what could make the interior experience as special as possible for residents. These special three-dimensionally-sculpted windows will allow the building’s residents to have light-filled interiors plus exciting new panoramic views and new visual connections to the city beyond.”

Last month, Related Companies officially announced the name of its landmark project at 515 West 18th Street. Lantern House, the highly anticipated condominium project designed by the acclaimed Heatherwick Studio, founded by designer Thomas Heatherwick, is currently rising with occupancy anticipated in Fall 2020.

Named for its interpretation of the modern bay window, Lantern House was designed from the inside out. A teaser website went live this morning, revealing more details about Heatherwick’s first residential project in the United States and offering a sneak preview of the development’s striking design.

Lantern House builds on Heatherwick Studio’s international boundary-pushing projects, including Vessel at Hudson Yards and Pier 55, which are creating a sculptural corridor along the far West Side of New York City.

Lantern House’s two towers, connected by a sculptural glass lobby flank the High Line, one building standing 10-stories and the other 21-stories.

Heatherwick’s vision for Lantern House is a response to the neighborhood’s maritime warehouses and pairs hand-laid antiqued grey brickwork with industrial metal detailing and a dramatic reinvention of the bay window lining the textured grid exteriors of Lantern House’s two towers. Designed by Heatherwick specifically for Lantern House, the lantern-shaped bay windows maximize light and views while adding charm and uniqueness to the homes on the interior. Each home features reinvented bay windows many with window seats, the ideal perch for taking in the unparalleled views of the Hudson River, the skyline, the High Line and Chelsea's beautiful architecture.

When sales launch in 2020, Related will introduce 181 elegantly appointed condominium residences uniquely crafted to take advantage of the building’s architecture and location.    Designed from the inside out, each home features over 10’ ceilings and a layout designed to complement Heatherwick’s oversized bay windows, invigorating each residence with new dimension.

Lantern House will offer extensive state of the art community-style amenities for leisure and wellness.

Lantern House is a refreshingly unique addition to West Chelsea, a neighborhood that has become a hotbed for contemporary architecture from Pritizker Prize-winning master architects like Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, and Shigeru Ban.

At the forefront of city defining projects including the The Shops at Columbus Circle, Superior Ink, 70 Vestry and Hudson Yards, Related Companies’ track record of innovative design-driven luxury developments is unsurpassed.

Lantern House features one- to four-bedroom residences, many with private setback terraces, and an assortment of expansive penthouses. Pricing will start at $1.7 million.

Sales at Lantern House are slated to commence in January 2020. Working in partnership with Related Sales LLC, Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group is the co-exclusive marketing and sales agent, continuing its tradition of excellence and leadership in the high-design luxury property sector.
