The building is designed by Copenhagen-based 3XN Architects. On the façade, modular panels with angled elements change appearance throughout the day and year, depending on the sky and the sun. The irregular pattern cleverly hides the layout of the identical hotel floors, stacked on top of each other.

3XN worked closely with Land Architects to redefine the site to welcome bikes and pedestrians. The hotel helps to weave the existing neighborhood together with a new park with new shortcuts, and a patio that offers a much needed attractive public outdoor space.

”To emphasize the green setting for the Grow Hotel, we designed the building in the shape of a chevron,” said Marie Hesseldahl Larsen, Partner, 3XN.

”This gentle ’v’ shape embraces the park in front of the hotel and creates added visual interest to the architectural form. Its anodized aluminum façade, with its warm, grey tone, contrasts with the green of the park and expansive blue façade of neighboring Stora Blå.”

The interior is created by award-winning Note Design Studio in Stockholm. Grow Hotel is the consultancy's first hotel assignment.

"We have wanted to design hotels for a long time. To us it’s interesting that there are many different environments that must work together. A hotel stay is like life in miniature – you hang out, eat, work and sleep”, said Johannes Carlström, interior architect at Note Design Studio.

The interior design concept was based on the hotel's focus on business travelers – hotel guests that, more often than not, travel alone.

"We imagined the weary business traveler, on the road for 150 days a year, getting out of a taxi from Arlanda with his or her carry-on case on a rainy night in November. This hotel shouldn’t feel cool or luxurious, it should make the guest feel taken care of”.

The nine floors contain 176 rooms, all with windows in full room height. In the spring a large outdoor terrace with a charcoal grill will open in the courtyard. But it's the inviting, transparent entrance floor that makes Grow Hotel stand out.

The requirement was a challenge – a relatively small area that would have to accommodate both the lobby, lounge, bar and restaurant. Note Design Group’s solution was a tight layout without clear boundaries between the various features, a dynamic living room setting where the lone guest will feel like a natural participant.

”We strived for it to be perceived as a great glorious whole, and that guided out work with the layout. The floor plan generated many exciting angles that we have been able to utilize”, says architect Jesper Mellgren at Note Design Studio.

Different parts of the hotel have been given different color schemes based on their function. The communal areas of the entrance floor are characterized by warm, powerful colors, tactile natural materials and a lot of greenery. In the hotel rooms, a brighter and lighter color scheme gives a more contemplative atmosphere.
