The new train station in Moss is part of a larger investment with a 10 km train track that connects Sandbukta, Moss and Såstad, south of Oslo, Norway. Sweco Architects has developed the programme documents, project planning documents and contract documents for the train station that will be located south of the city centre in Moss. The station building is planned to be finished in year 2023.

In the intersection between the sloped terrain in northeast and the harbour area in west will the station with its four train tracks and two platforms be built. The north end of the station meets the square Reisetorget, where space for greenery, meeting places and bicycle parking will be provided. A generous stair with integrated seating connects Reisetorget to Fjordtorget next to the waterfront. Here, a new area, Sjøsiden, will be developed in the future. Moss Station will be an integrated extension of the local city scape that is flexible for future changes and expansion.

Developing Moss Station into a node has been a core task in the project, for instance by connecting the waterfront to the bus station along Fjordveien. This connection is strengthened by a pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the platforms that links Fjordveien to the harbour, as well as the bicycle lanes on each side of the train tracks.

Navigable, sleepless and safety are key values that have been in focus throughout the project. Moss Station is intended to be a spacious, bright and aesthetically appealing building that invites and welcomes visitors and travellers. A natural movement through the station will lead the travellers between different means of transport in a safe and smooth way.

Principal architect: Pekka Leppänen
