The design brief was to modernise the home, both inside and out, whilst retaining the coastal feel of the original brick and weatherboard house.

The architectural language of the project celebrates the local vernacular style in a modern and playful way. Using a seaside palette of materials, such as white painted timberwork, grey decking and copper sheeting, the home feels fresh and relaxing. The traditional form of a beach cottage is reinterpreted through simplified massing and cantilevered planes. Particular attention has been given to the openings; deep reveals frame unobstructed views of the garden and ocean beyond.
