Vilnius Concert Hall | Manuel Caicoya

Vilnius Concert Hall is a competition entry proposal submitted by Yeah Architects in
collaboration with a team of architects for the Vilnius National Concert Hall Competition. The
a proposed concert hall is designed to have a trefoil like structure, consisting of 3 distinct but
intertwined areas with total area 16.000 m2, covering main concert halls, small concert halls
with rooftop terrace and servicing areas.
The competition proposal is aimed to create a brand new concert hall with a strong identity
to represent the city. YEAH Architects, therefore, takes an opportunity to rethink the
definition and topology of a concert hall and make it for the future. “ We think that this
concert hall should take the advantage of its location at the highest point of the city and be a
memory making the place where people can appreciate the moment they spend there no matter
they come for any purpose. It should be a space full of surprises.”
The proposed design has a very unique and strong character which represents the ambition
of Vilnius but at the same time has minimal impact to the environment. It is soft and organic
appearance is erected gradually from the existing landscape and slowly transformed into
different type spaces which activate social, economical, educational opportunities on the
site.
Views, history, people and the environment are the assets of the city and the crucial elements to
create moments for people. We want to take none‐tangible factors above into consideration. A unique circulation structure is designed to intentionally and dynamically
change the perception and hearing experience of people while they walk through the
building. “A great building should always inspire be able to people”.
The idea, therefore, is also to blur the relationship between inside and outside of the building,
as well as sounds generated from different corners of the building. It is a building with rich
an instrumental quality which encourages a different type of music activities such as street music
performances, family activities...etc to take place and make it for everyone instead of being a
the place where the only a specific type of people visit and specific type of music event is held.
