Maison de la Luz is the new, luxury 67-room guest house by creative studio Atelier Ace (behind Ace Hotel Group). Inhabiting a six-story 1908 building in New Orleans’ Warehouse District, Maison de la Luz is an intimate sanctuary exclusive only to hotel guests. Designed in collaboration with renowned design firm Studio Shamshiri [featured on the AD100 list and Elle Décor's A List], the property combines the elegance of classic French hotels with the comfort of Southern bed-and-breakfasts, to create a new experience that redefines luxury hospitality.

Housed in a former annex for City Hall, Maison de la Luz preserves original architectural elements, like the ornate staircase banisters and stone walls, while adding indulgent details like grand marble vanities and timeless chandeliers. The design and decor features vibrant layers of colors, patterns and textures that tie into the culture and heritage of New Orleans. Guests enter the property through an open, atrium-style foyer framed by dual staircases with gold dusted, patina banisters. Upon checking in, guests are handed a heavy, silk tasseled key. They are then guided through the private guest spaces which include The Living Room, a bar and living area operating on the honor system where guests can mix their own drinks and enjoy nightly wine and charcuterie offerings, and the airy, high-ceilinged Breakfast Room, a dining area featuring custom scalloped-edged tables and classic Chinoiserie blue hues throughout the space. Private guest spaces also include the 12-seat Salon, which offers exclusive access to the Maison de la Luz cocktail bar and lounge, Bar Marilou

The guest suites feature custom design details like Christopher Farr x Studio Shamshiri rugs inspired by Bayou-based flora and fauna and original sculptural pieces displayed in a glass box by New Orleans-native Clare Crespo, alongside updated antiques sourced from New Orleans-based auction houses. Suite bathrooms have custom 4-color marble tiles on the floor, ornate, sculptural snake handles on glass shower doors, and porcelain soap dishes inspired by Gulf Coast oysters.

The only space open to the public is Maison de la Luz’s cocktail bar and lounge, Bar Marilou. In partnership with Quixotic Projects, the France-based hospitality group behind acclaimed Parisian venues like Candelaria, Le Mary Celeste, Glass, Hero, and Les Grands Verres, Bar Marilou is their first U.S. venture and offers an expansive selection of apéritif and specialty cocktails. Hotel guests are able to access Bar Marilou through the adjacent Salon, exclusively for hotel guest use, through a vibrant red, revolving bookcase door that features an extensive selection of books ranging in genre and edition.
