La Casa de la Capilla | Ignacio Hornillos

The Chapel House responds to the particular needs of the clients. It is a marriage with 9 children and who have a strong religious feeling. The result seeks harmony with the existing home by introducing 4 objects that generate a spatial and functional change through 4 architectural operations.

1.Attach = Pavilion

The new pavilion is located in the footprint of an old garage construction. The use change and an elongated and rhythmic volumen, build with a cozy interior, link the pool with the garden. The curved wall invites you to discover the back house and a 6 meters large wood window gives light and serves at the same time as a facade for the large pines who are in the existing plot. From this volume, there is a lower and narrower subpavilion, parallel to the main house, which hides the necessary uses to store bicycles and make barbecues on sunny days.

2.Insert = Main bedroom.

Due to the large family that they form, an order from the clients was to be able to insert a mini-apartment for them into the home. It is a new open and tidy room .The materials are in line with the reform and the new bedroom aim to be an oasis of intimacy from the bustle of 9 children. The bathroom is integrated through the use of oak wood lattices that characterize the space without losing privacy.

3.Sift = Porch

The use of the pool changes completely through a space in shade and a new pavement. In front of the pavilion and on the other side of the pool a complex and light structure is built where you can set a table and enjoy a meeting under the shadow of nature. The metal structure orders the space, builds a framework for the vegetation, allows privacy with the neighbor and creates a sieve for the hot months.

4.Excavate = Chapel

This extension would not be the same if it did not have the prominence of the buried chapel. As if it were a hidden chest, the family introduce the place of worship on the foundations of the old house. A silent and climatically conditioned place where to raise a place of prayer with noble materials. The access is organized through some stairs near the pavilion where a door indicates the use of the space and through the window it discovers a surprising interior.

The furniture has been entirely made to measure, where the section of each element reproduces the symbol of the cross to convey greater coherence with the prayer space. There are two clearly differentiated worlds, the earthly place in earth colors and rough walls in front of the bright and sober altar that is built with white marble and nobel metals such as iron and bronze.

In short, the project is tailored to specific needs and does so through 4 very clean and respectful architectural operations with the original housing. The 4 architectural operations give the old house a new character through 4 elements that respect the above and enhance a contemporary and special housing. Conceived more as 4 pieces of furniture in well-placed, the house of the chapel responds integratively to a special and respectful commission.

Memoria:

La Casa de la Capilla responde a las particulares necesidades de los clientes. Se trata de un matrimonio que cuenta con 9 hijos y que tienen un marcado sentimiento religioso. El resultado busca la armonía con la vivienda existente mediante la introducción de 4 objetos que generen un cambio espacial y funcional a través de 4 operaciones arquitectónicas.

1.       Adosar = Pabellón.

El nuevo pabellón se sitúa en la huella de una antigua construcción de garaje. El uso cambia y se genera un volumen alargado y rítmico donde construir un interior vinculado al uso de la zona trasera. El muro curvo invita a descubrir el espacio de la piscina y un ventanal de madera y vidrio de 6 metros de luz sirve de fachada para los grandes pinos que existen en la parcela. De este volumen, sale un subpabellón, más bajo y estrecho, paralelo a la vivienda principal, y que esconde los usos necesarios para guardar las bicicletas, la barbacoa, los útiles de jardinería y la máquina de aerotermia. Ambos pabellones se caracterizan por las dos grandes vigas HEB de 12 metros de largo que muestran, en su frente, el músculo estructural de la operación.

2.       Insertar = Dormitorio

Debido a la gran familia que forman, un encargo de los clientes era poder insertar en su vivienda un mini-apartamento para los padres. Es una nueva habitación abierta y ordenada; la madera de roble, la moqueta de sisal y las paredes estucadas crean un oasis protegido por muros de triple placa de pladur con aislamiento Copoprem entre sus perfiles. El nuevo volumen tiene como objetivo crear una atmósfera de intimidad ante el bullicio de los 9 hijos, siendo un espacio fluido pero recogido a la vez. El baño se integra a través del uso de tres celosías de madera de roble y un vestidor continuo del mismo material que rodea la habitación y da uso y calidez al nuevo dormitorio principal.

3.       Tamizar = Pérgola

El uso de la piscina cambia completamente a través de un espacio en sombra y un nuevo pavimento. Frente al pabellón, y al otro lado del agua, se construye una estructura compleja y ligera donde poner una mesa y disfrutar de una reunión bajo la sombra de la naturaleza. La estructura metálica ordena el espacio, construye un marco para la vegetación, permite la privacidad con el vecino y crea un tamiz para los meses de calor. Esta geometría en forma de “Y” permite liberar el suelo y ampliar la sombra, todo ello dimensionado a través de múltiplos de la escala del 7 donde el protagonismo lo adquiere la nueva tarima de madera.

4.       Excavar = Capilla

Como si fuera un cofre escondido, la familia sitúa en los cimientos de la antigua casa el espacio de culto. Un lugar silencioso y acondicionado climáticamente donde levantar con materiales nobles un lugar de oración. El acceso se organiza a través de unas escaleras cercanas al pabellón donde una puerta indica el uso del espacio y descubre a través del ventanuco un interior sobrio. El mobiliario ha sido diseñado y realizado a medida íntegramente, donde la sección de cada elemento reproduce el símbolo de la cruz para trasmitir mayor coherencia con el espacio de oración. Existen dos mundos claramente diferenciados, el lugar terrenal en colores tierra y paredes rugosas frente al altar brillante y solemne que se construye con mármol blanco calacatta y metales pulidos como el hierro y el bronce.

En definitiva, el proyecto se ajusta a unas necesidades específicas y lo hace a través de 4 operaciones arquitectónicas claras y respetuosas con la vivienda original. Se busca complementar y dotar de carácter contemporáneo a la prexistencia; obteniendo un conjunto material, funcional y estético. Esta ampliación no sería la misma si no tuviera el protagonismo de la capilla enterrada que está en el germen del proyecto y da nombre a la nueva vivienda.
