PalaNuoto Swimming Center | Arata Isozaki
The choice to break with the classic pool scheme! Turin / Italy / 2011
The "PalaNuoto" is born from the need to have a structure able to host swimming competitions both at national and international level. 1200 spectators are welcomed on the stands.
The intervention, also from the urbanistic point of view, tends to make the building permeable towards the city with mutual rapprochement, thanks to the glazed and steel elements that predominate on the concrete elements.
The structure consists of a single block structure. The base and the stands, the tanks, as well as all the service areas have been realized through the use of reinforced concrete and traditional techniques.
The roof is instead composed of steel beams and a prefabricated insulating roof covered with stainless steel surfaces with a shaped section.
Towards Via Filadelfia, the roof juts out for about 16 meters and is covered at the bottom with panels in polished stainless steel. The wall always facing Via Filadelfia and the two side walls consist entirely of structural glazing.
The facility has two tanks: one at ground level of 50 x 20 meters with 8 lanes and a smaller one with 4 lanes, located in the basement.
