The project was developed with the following aims: to build a sports facility suitable for the Olympic Games and to provide the city of Turin with a building that can be used, after the Olympic event, to host even cultural, spectacular and community events. In this sense, the Oval project is part of the urban redevelopment and conversion program of the Turin industrial area.

The project developed according to three guidelines: simplicity, clarity and functionality. The intervention aims to reinterpret the language of the adjacent Lingotto building.

The building has a simple and regular mesh, in which three emerging bodies containing different functions are inserted. An extremely simple external shape of the cover contrasts with the internal richness and complexity. The building explicitly expresses the functional divisions that live within it: the three large irregular bodies identify, in fact, the three distinct functions that emerge during the Olympic and post-Olympic use.
